Boris Johnson latest: Michael Gove says former PM is ‘man of integrity’

The audience at Question Time reveal if they thought Boris Johnson was telling MPs the truth

“Boris Johnson is a man of integrity,” senior secretary Michael Gove agreed to Sophy Ridge on Sunday

When asked on the program this morning if he thought the former Prime Minister was a man of integrity, Mr Gove replied: “I think Boris is someone who puts the country first, yes.”

It comes as Mr Johnson is under investigation by the Commons Privilege Committee into whether he intentionally or recklessly misled the Commons with his statements about Partygate.

MPs investigating whether the former Prime Minister deliberately misled Parliament about his understanding of parties at Downing Street during the pandemic could recommend a suspension of more than 10 days, sparking competition for his Uxbridge constituency.

Mr Johnson is now preparing for a “worst case” scenario in which he will have to fight a by-election he is expected to lose, allies have said.

The strike by the young doctors “will not endanger the lives of the patients,” says the BMA chairman

dr Robert Laurenson, co-chair of the British Medical Association (BMA) Junior Doctor Committee, has apologized for the disruptions that will cause further strikes but said he didn’t think they would endanger patients’ lives.

On Sunday’s Sky News program on Sky News, he told Sophy Ridge on whether the new strike will endanger lives: “I don’t think so and indeed the NHS has shown very resilience in our last action which was last week. over a period of 72 hours.”

On canceled appointments and the “huge” NHS backlog, he added: “This strike action, yes it’s causing disruption and I’m sorry for that, but it just goes to show that we have 9,000 secondary care vacancies, we’re down 6,000 GPs , and it is very difficult for patients to access the healthcare they deserve.”

On calls for a 35% pay rise, he added: “So doctors have lost 26.1% in real terms over the last 15 years and what we’re asking for is that that’s restored, so we’re asking that it go back to.” from a zero-cost standpoint in 2008, and what that looks like is an increase of around £5 to £10 an hour. Right now doctors are starting at 14 pounds an hour and we are just asking that that be increased back to 19 pounds an hour.”

The government’s anti-social behavior plan “amounts to nothing,” says shadow cabinet minister

Shadow culture secretary Lucy Powell said the government’s anti-social behavior plan was “nothing”.

She told Sky News’ Sophy Ridge on Sunday: “Look, we’ve heard it all before from this administration and I think we have to judge them on their record and the condemnation of the community over the last thirteen years isn’t only decreased by a third, but by two thirds.”

She added: “They abolished the asbo (anti-social behavior orders) regime put in place by the last Labor government and under their watch anti-social behavior has deteriorated, sentencing has fallen immeasurably and we see crimes remain unsolved .
