Broadcast Sport has added the Sports Commentator of the Year category to the 2022 Broadcast Sport Awards.

The category was created after receiving several requests to give special recognition to the sports commentator’s unique skills.

The new category recognizes the sports commentator who has consistently provided engaging and insightful coverage of sporting events over the past 12 months.

The sports commentator can work for radio or television or both and can comment on any sport.

Entry will be judged on the commentator’s ability to demonstrate genuine knowledge of the unfolding storyline, place it in context, and keep both ardent fans of the sport and newcomers alike informed, entertained and caught on by the action.

The category includes commentary on sporting events between September 11, 2021 and September 11, 2022. The Sports Commentator of the Year category is open for submission now.

What are the Broadcast Sport Awards?

The Broadcast Sport Awards put the spotlight on the best in sports content. It’s the second year of the Awards, following a triumphant, sold-out first year at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House, Park Lane (see highlights below).

The Broadcast Sport Awards 2022 will be held at a larger venue this year – the London Hilton on Park Lane – to meet ticket demand.

The awards bring together broadcasters, production companies and rights holders/associations to celebrate the best sports content over the past year.

The categories recognize the full breadth of sports content, from live sports coverage and documentaries to original and short-form content, whether linear, digital or OTT/D2C.

The closing date for entries is September 2, 2022.

The shortlist will be announced on September 19, 2022 and an expert panel of industry leaders will then determine the final winners in each category.

Winners will be announced at the Broadcast Sport Awards 2022 Gala Dinner on 1st November 2022 at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

The Broadcast Sport Awards 2022 are sponsored by EMG, base, IMG Replay, NEP and Timeline.
