Bromsgrove Sporting beaten by two second half goals

Bromsgrove Sporting’s league campaign began last Saturday against St Ives Town.

Manager Thomas Baillie had a busy preseason, with many players leaving but just as many joining, writes Shaunna-Grace Murphy.

The first half was very even, with both sides creating chances, but in the 29th minute a free-kick found Ryan Edmund’s new signing Dan Sweeney, who scored on his league debut for Bromsgrove Sporting.

Early in the second half, the visitors equalized from a corner when Bromsgrove goalkeeper Ollie Taylor and Jonny Edwards scored for The Ives.

Sporting found it difficult to find their way back into the second half. On another corner from St Ives, Edwards scored his second goal with a thunderous swing from a corner.

The signings of Harvey Gregson and Jack Byrne for Sporting helped, but St Ives controlled the second half as Sporting failed to get the ball.

The home side continued to push against the flow of play, but St Ives were well organized at the back and a last-ditch effort from Bromsgrove was short-lived as the referee indicated that substitute Mikey Taylor had fouled one of St Ives’ defenders.

The game ended 2-1 for St Ives, who outplayed Sporting in the second half and were deserved winners.

More questions for Bromsgrove Sporting after a successful transfer window but the team are yet to reach an agreement.

Sporting now meet Kidderminster Harriers at the Victoria Ground on Tuesday night for a friendly before a league game at Needham Market next Saturday.
