Buying or Selling Latest WrestleMania 39 Plans and More WWE Rumors

Aside from a very few one-off events, nothing can quite match the hype of the WrestleMania season rumors.

The rumor mill is always wild during this stretch between the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania itself. But it feels stronger than usual in 2023 with so much in flux, from plans for current Superstars and Legends to the general speculation of an outright sale of WWE.

The latest batch focuses on proposed ‘mania’ plans for a legend like ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin. Others focus on unexpected rising stars, while others involve names like Brock Lesnar.

Here’s a look at the latest, biggest rumors worth mentioning and a deep dive into why they’re worth buying or selling.

WWE reportedly wanted Stone Cold and Brock Lesnar to dance at WrestleMania 39.

According to Justin Barrasso of sports illustratedLesnar and Bobby Lashley had their expected rematch in Elimination Chamber because they thought Steve Austin might agree to the big match in ‘Mania.

But while Lashley has been placed in a program with Bray Wyatt, Lesnar now finds himself in an interesting fight with Omos that is planned for ‘Mania’.

Fans will likely be divided on whether Lesnar-Austin should be a thing anyway, given that Austin is 58. But ‘Mania is a place for the greatest spectacle of all, so Lesnar is now tasked with taking on the 7’3″ Omos and Lesnar-Austin would have been one of the greatest spectacles of all time.

As risky as it may be, especially at her age, ‘mania is about attractions.

Verdict: purchase

One of the more interesting rumors surrounding Stone Cold’s possible trip to WrestleMania 39 revolved around… LA Knight?

According to Fightful Sean Ross Sapp (h/t H. Jenkins of Thirsty For News) Knight was one of the names suggested to Austin as a possibility for the big show.

And that’s pretty hard to buy. It’s one thing to think of a big name like Lesnar as Austin’s opponent. “Mania is, after all, a spectacle. But it feels like Kevin Owens was as far down last year as WWE would be willing to go for Austin before losing some of that appeal to a more casual, pure-mania audience.

Another obstacle is Knight’s track record in the ring. He hasn’t won since January.

Given the precarious nature of a match with a legend eliminated with neck injuries, and the need for it to be a huge spectacle, it’s hard to believe Knight was at the top of the list.

Verdict: sale

On one hand, throwing LA Knight straight into a historic match with Austin seems like a bit much.

But the idea that he deserves some fans within WWE? This is a purchase.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), big reactions to LA Knight at a house show at Madison Square Garden, has done a lot for his backstage stock lately.

It’s not difficult to understand why. Knight is fantastic on the mic.

But he’s lost a ton, and fans may eventually lose faith in him as a threat to the heroes. But for now it seems obvious he’s on the upswing, which is a good place for a veteran to find himself after only returning to the company in 2021 with NXT.

Verdict: purchase

Modern pro wrestling legend Batista has long been speculated as a likely member of the 2023 Hall of Fame class.

But according to PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson (h/t Manik Aftab of Ringside News), Batista’s acting commitments could prevent him from being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. He has filming for the upcoming movie my spy in South Africa during WrestleMania week.

The Animal headlined the class of 2020 before there was no ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic and has not been included in subsequent classes to date. So far, only Rey Mysterio and The Great Muta have been announced as the 2023 contestants for the March 31st ceremony.

This wouldn’t be the first time outside commitments have seemingly undone a significant WrestleMania moment, and it might not even be the first time this has happened at this WrestleMania.

But he’s made his love for fans and business known, and thankfully he won’t have to do much to prepare for such an honor. He will no doubt find a way to make that happen when WWE calls him.

Verdict: sale
