Claressa Shields vs. Savannah Marshall date, start time, odds, schedule & card for 2022 middleweight title fight

A historic boxing card will take place on September 10th when Claressa Shields vs. Savannah Marshall headlines a women-only boxing card at the O2 Arena, London.

At stake is the title of undisputed middleweight champion. Shields will put her WBA, WBC, WBF and The Ring titles on the line while Marshall defends the WBO title in a year-long grudge match.

In the co-main event, Mikaela Mayer meets Alycia Baumgardner for the WBO, IBF, The Ring, WBC and IBO junior lightweight titles.

At the 2012 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, Shields lost to Marshall, the only loss of her amateur and professional boxing careers. Shields never holds back and is ready to end any debate about who is the better fighter.

“Savannah Marshall was lucky in 2012, but she’s not going to be lucky in 2022,” Shields said during a pre-fight press conference. “The Olympics and the amateurs are important to you. As an amateur, you played 60-16 with no knockouts. I was 77-1, 19 KOs. They had zero (knockouts). There’s nothing you can do that I can do. You can sit here and talk, but you won’t win on September 10th.”

Since that fight, Shields, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, became the undisputed middleweight champion in 2019 when she defeated Christina Hammer. She became the undisputed light middleweight champion in 2021 when she defeated Marie Eve Dicaire. The 27-year-old also won gold in the super middleweight division.

Marshall made her pro debut in 2017. Marshall won the WBO middleweight title in October 2020 and has defended it three times. Their last fight was a KO win over Femke Hermans in April. Marshall is poised to add to her record No. 11 knockout.

“I knocked out people you did 10 laps with. I’m not just going to hit you. I’m going to hurt you and outsmart you,” Marshall explained. “That’s all you need to know. I’m a better fighter. I will have all of their world titles on September 10th.”

Mayer made her pro debut in 2017. As the WBC NABF super featherweight champion, she won the 2020 WBO junior lightweight title against Ewa Brodnicka. In November 2021, Mayer won the IBF and The Ring junior lightweight titles against the hard batting of Maiva Hamadouche.

Baumgardner made her pro debut in 2017. She’s on a six-fight win streak after losing to Christina Linardatou in 2018. In 2021, Baumgardner made herself known by defeating Terri Harper to win the WBC and IBO junior lightweight titles.
