John Johnson III has been with Myles Garrett long enough to know he’ll likely try to play in Atlanta on Sunday, but after photos of the crashed Porsche Garrett were flipped multiple times Monday, Johnson is hoping he’s resting.

“I wouldn’t be surprised (if he plays),” Johnson said Wednesday. “I know he probably wants it. But if you ask me, personally I think he should just sit it out. But I have no idea. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he did, but it’s a difficult situation. I think he should just take it easy man.”

Garrett wasn’t at the Browns facility Wednesday, but coach Kevin Stefanski hasn’t ruled him out for Sunday. He said he’ll be at Browns headquarters on Thursday and “we’ll see” if he practices then.

Stefanski was asked if the trauma of the accident would play a role in his decision on whether or not to play against Garrett on Sunday. Garrett looked dazed on the bodycam video as he sat next to the wrecked car and had to be helped to the ambulance. He suffered a sprained shoulder, strained biceps and a cut in his right hand, but was relieved of a concussion.

“They take everything into account,” he said.

He said the emphasis on safety towards his players, which he did when they went to their mini-bye last weekend, is a regular thing.

“I’m just grateful that he’s okay,” Stefanski said.

For a man, Garrett’s teammates Wednesday were also thankful that he and his female passenger were not seriously injured. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Garrett dodged to avoid an animal and overcorrected.

Judging by the look of the mangled Porsche, Johnson found it hard to believe that Garrett had escaped unscathed.

“One hundred percent,” he said. “I don’t know the health of his passenger but yeah it’s kind of crazy. Things like that happen, it’s just scary for everyone. But I heard he was buckled. I don’t know if that helped or not, but it was good.

“They said they rolled over a number of times, so whenever that happens you at least have a serious injury, but I’m just glad he got away clean.”
