College football rankings: Alabama back at No. 1 in preseason Coaches Top 25

Alabama is #1 again.

The Crimson Tide Open are ranked #1 in USA Today Sports’ UFCA Coaches Poll released Monday.

This is the seventh time Alabama has started the season as the No. 1 coach poll. The Crimson Tide were number 1 in the same poll last year. Alabama finished last season 13-2, losing 33-18 to Georgia in the college football playoff championship game.

Alabama received 54 of 66 first-place votes.

The Bulldogs rank #3 in this year’s poll after winning the program’s first national championship since 1980 last season. Georgia received six first-place votes.

Ohio State, which received five first-place votes, ranks second in the coaches’ poll. The Buckeyes begin the fourth season of Ryan Day. The Buckeyes ended last season 11-2.

Texas, which ranks 18th, received a first-place vote.

Clemson and Notre Dame rounded out the top five. Michigan, which made its debut in the college football playoffs, is sixth. Texas A&M, Utah, Oklahoma and Baylor round out the top 10.
