‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ wins Best Picture, 6 other Oscars

The Multiverse was a huge hit at the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday night (March 12).

The genre-bending sci-fi film Everything Everywhere All At Once swept through most major categories, winning Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Editing and Best Original Screenplay.

Everything Everywhere All At Once is a refreshing foray into Multiverse madness, a domain mostly inhabited by the Marvel Cinematic Universe lately, but here interdimensional fun has been harnessed to bring the genius story of an Asian-American immigrant to life tell who learns their fate lies in saving the fate of the universe.

A24’s provocative sci-fi/kung-fu comedy was nominated for 11 Oscars and capped off the evening’s ceremony at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theater with a total of seven historic Oscars, including 2014’s most-ever Oscar win with “Gravity.” scored a science fiction film.

Though it was predicted to win multiple gold statues by ratings makers, critics, and fans, no one expected the mind-blowing “Everything” to garner such monumental attention, beating heavy Hollywood hits in almost every category.

End the night with a well-deserved Best Picture win against the likes of Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, All Quiet on the Western Front, The Fabelmans, “Elvis” and others, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” excelled in a variety of categories.

Swiss Army Man filmmakers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, collectively known as The Daniels, took home the Best Director award against formidable opponents such as Steven Spielberg, Todd Field, Martin McDonagh and Ruben Ostlund. The directing couple also won for Best Original Screenplay.

Michelle Yeoh, who portrays multiversal heroine Evelyn Wang, became the first Asian woman to win an Academy Award for Best Actress. Ke Huy Quan, who is fondly remembered for his childhood roles in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies, won the Best Supporting Actor award. Jamie Lee Curtis, who has given fans incredible performances for over four decades, brought home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

The only acting category that “Everything” didn’t win was best actor, which went to Brendan Fraser for “The Whale.”

At the end of the seven-seven-seven nights of the sci-fi spectacle, Paul Rogers was honored for his skilful cinematic editing. He picked up the Academy Award for Best Editing against renowned nominees like Elvis, Top Gun: Maverick, Tar and The Banshees of Inisherin.

Elsewhere in science fiction, director James Cameron’s four-award-nominated Avatar: The Way of Water won the Academy Award for Best Special Effects. The glittering trophies went to Joe Letteri, Richard Baneham, Eric Saindon and Daniel Barrett.
