Ex-JOURNEY Singer STEVE AUGERI Comments On Latest Band Drama, Says He Wouldn’t Rejoin Group If Asked

In a new interview with The Chuck Shute Podcast, Steve Augeriwho was the lead singer of TRIP from 1998 to 2006, was asked about recent headlines between the guitarists Neal Schon and keyboard player Jonathan Cainwith No suggested at one point that inception TRIP keyboardist/singer Gregg Rolle would be performing on the band’s current tour. Augeri said (as transcribed from BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Look if you asked me about it or if you asked me about my neighbor and if their marriage was kinda rocky is the same thing. It is not my business; It’s none of my business. But it’s a relationship that’s been 50 years, and that’s extraordinary just to reach this milestone. And unless you have cracks in your foundation, I dunno — you need to be walking on water, too. No one walks on water. You’ve been together for so long. There’s a good chance they… I’m sure they could could Patch things up, except things have been a little bumpy lately, more so than ever.

He continued: “That’s all I can say. It’s their job to solve their problem. And I hope they do – for the good of the band and for the good of the fans alike, because you can’t help but think it affects them too.”

Augeri was also raised to the fact that electricity TRIP Singer Arnell Pineda recently posted a series of cryptic tweets suggesting he’s unhappy with the group’s progress. Asked if he thinks TRIP would ask him to return to the band and would he accept the invitation, steve said, “Well, I’d probably say no and no. And I’ll tell you why. If they asked me to go, for starters… Look, I’ve had my day in the sun, I’ve had my run, and i thought it was wonderful. Arnel did that, and probably twice as long as I’ve been there, and he did great.

“I think they need to fix it with the current team. I just think it is.” Augeri continued. “Because if I were going with any faction… Because unfortunately right now it seems like there are two camps… I love these guys — if I could call it ‘love’ — and respect them equally for a variety of reasons, because they’ve got me.” given the best possible chance… the greatest chance anyone could ever have and I would hate to turn my back on one or the other so it would probably just be better… And I’m happy with what I’m doing… This one Guys still go out five days a week and I can’t physically Do that. The joy would be… After the first show I would be like a deer in the headlights: ‘Is my voice working after the third show on the third day?’ And I don’t want to be there.”

earlier this month, Augeri spoke with QFM96‘S “Torg & Elliot” Radio show about the task of replacing Steve Perry in one of the world’s most popular rock acts. He said: “It was incredibly disheartening. The only saving grace, however, was that I had a great singing teacher at the time, Markus Baxter from New England. And To mark just said, ‘Listen, you’ll only be successful if you can just sing like yourself and be yourself. That’s the only way anyone’s ever going to accept you — if you’re real.” That little tidbit of information, and we’ve kind of squeezed our way into 1,500-seat theaters across the country, and in the eight years that we’ve pushed it to 15,000-[capacity arenas] to 70,000 feasts. So it took a lot of time. The fans were kind, and they were really… It could never have happened without them. And it wasn’t 100 percent everywhere, because honestly, if you came up to me and said, ‘Hey, are you going to replace? Robert Plant In LED ZEPPELIN?’ I mean take your biggest favorite bands and try to replace their lead singers. It’s just impossible. Hats off to whoever made it. First I think of Mr Sammy Hagar, Naturally. He did it [with VAN HALEN] and he ripped the leather off the ball, didn’t he? It was a grand slam that he did it.”

Circling back to his time with TRIP, steve said: “I had a wonderful run with them. i love these guys i love their music And it was a great stepping stone to finally releasing a solo album called today ‘Seven Ways to Sunday’.”

In terms of whether it was easy to pick up the pieces after his exit TRIP, Augeri said: “It wasn’t easy, but of course it was very easy because I had just left TRIP. Well admittedly I left because I had voice problems. So in the first year I had to heal my voice. And thank god that happened. And from then on it opened more doors than it closed, let’s put it that way. How fortunate it can be that I can always say, “Well, I used to sing for one of the best American rock ‘n’ roll bands that will ever exist – ever was or ever will be.” For that I am grateful .”

Augeri was born on January 30, 1959 in Brooklyn. steve was the lead singer in BIG STORIESwho released a single self-titled album in 1991. He continued to sing along TYKETTO for her 1995 album, “Seem”. Augeri retired from music in the mid-1990s BIG STORIES lost momentum. When he worked in a Gap store TRIP guitarist Neal Schon came into contact with a demo tape of Augeri‘S. TRIP was then looking for a new lead singer after the loss of perry who left the band after their brief reunion in the mid-1990s due to touring conflicts and health issues.
