Expected goals scorelines for Gameweek 3

Rounding out the weekend’s Premier League action in a less traditional way, we provide the xG score, an Infogol fairness rating and some notable data points.

  • We try to rank each game outcome by comparing the actual outcome to the range of possible outcomes that could occur given the quantity and quality of chances created by each side in the game.
  • This is scaled from 0 to 100, with 100 representing the occasions where the process most closely reflects the actual outcome, and lower scores indicate a game where the outcome is not fully reflected in the balance of opportunities created.

Harry Kane made Premier League history as his goal gave Tottenham a 1-0 win over Wolves.

The England captain drove home in the second half to score for the 185th time in the Premier League, taking him ahead of Sergio Aguero to fourth in the all-time goalscoring list.

It was Kane’s 250th in all competitions for the Spurs, with a win extending their undefeated start to the season.

The hosts couldn’t get close to Wolves’ goal for most of the first half and only recorded their first shot in the 45th minute. The guests, on the other hand, peppered the opposing goal in the first 45 minutes, albeit with speculative efforts (12 shots at 0.56 xG).

Antonio Conte’s side were greatly improved after the break and the pressure was finally rewarded in the 64th minute as Kane entered the record books.

Perisic played Son’s cross and Kane nodded home from close range to overtake Agüero in the list of all-time top scorers, while Andrew Cole was next in sight with 187.

Wilfried Zaha underlined his importance to Crystal Palace with a crucial brace as his side clinched their first Premier League win of the season with a 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

The influential striker quickly equalized Ollie Watkins’ early opener at Selhurst Park before converting the rebound after his penalty was saved by Emiliano Martinez in the second half.

Substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta snatched the Eagles’ decisive goal with his first touch, again involving Zaha.

Star man Zaha, who opened the scoring in Monday’s 1-1 draw at Liverpool, has now scored in each of the Eagles’ last seven top-flight victories (9 goals, 4.5 xG) and received a standing ovation rewarded when he was substituted late.

Patrick Vieira’s hosts were disallowed for offside after a dominant performance by Jeffrey Schlupp.

Villa eased off quickly after the fast start and although they just hit the bar in a 1-1 through Leon Bailey, manager Steven Gerrard leaves south London with plenty to think about.

Demarai Gray scored a late equalizer as Everton clinched their first Premier League point of the season with a 1-1 draw at newly promoted Nottingham Forest.

Gray snatched a long ball with just two minutes remaining at Goodison Park to equalize an attempt by Brennan Johnson just seven minutes earlier.

Forest had taken the lead against the flow of play but Steve Cooper’s side still gave the Merseysiders enough trouble to feel a draw was the least they deserved.

Everton had their moments in attack but failed to create many clear openings and had enough shaky moments to worry Frank Lampard.

Aleksandar Mitrovic’s last-minute header gave Fulham a 3-2 Premier League win over local rivals Brentford at rocking Craven Cottage.

The Serbian striker most recently converted Kevin Mbabu’s teasing cross from the far post, just as Fulham feared they had gambled away victory after giving up the 2-0 lead they had built up in the opening 20 minutes.

Marco Silva’s men sealed their first win of the new Premier League season thanks to Mitrovic’s third goal of the season.

Brentford striker Toney saw two lovely offsides ruled out just to make it what he felt lucky for a third time as he knocked home in the 71st minute to make it 2-2, with the Bees then expecting steal at least one point.

However, Mitrovic snatched the last word for Fulham in another hugely entertaining and high-profile top-flight bout, averaging 4.47 xG.

Supersub Che Adams’ impressive scissor kick sealed Southampton to an impressive 2-1 comeback win at Leicester, while key defender Wesley Fofana watched from the stands.

The talented centre-back was notable for his absence from Brendan Rodgers’ matchday squad as Chelsea tried to edge him away from King Power Stadium.

However, it was Leicester’s lack of offensive threat that was evident on the pitch as James Maddison’s clever free-kick was canceled out by a brace from substitute Adams while Southampton settled the winners.

The Saints’ first win of the season in the Premier League was their first away triumph since February and required a show of resilience after the Foxes took the lead in the 54th minute.

Maddison intelligently banged into a poor wall to set up a free-kick which Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men rebounded well, while Leicester-born Adams came off the bench to level up.

The Saints kept pushing forward and secured the win when Adams acrobatically turned home James Ward-Prowse’s cross late on. The post denied him a hat-trick in added time.
