Fantasy Football Projections 2022: Rankings, stats for top players, sleepers

Fantasy football is really about three things – players, rosters and numbers. Nothing combines these three things like leaderboards, and any good leaderboard starts with stat predictions. Experienced owners know that predictions are just estimates of a player’s stats could produce in any given year, but they’re still important when trying to envision what’s possible for all top players and potential sleepers. Most good cheat sheet drafts in 2022 will include stat predictions as part of their arsenal.

This year, Sporting News Fantasy has partnered with Draft Sharks to provide stat predictions in an easy-to-navigate and easy-to-read platform. Based on Draft Sharks predictions and adjusted to SN Fantasy’s PPR rankings, this gives you a good idea of what types of numbers players can produce if they stay healthy.

For some players, health plays a large role in their projection. That’s always the difficult thing about preseason evaluations. While we know that any player can get injured at any time, we also know that there are some players who tend to get injured more often. As a result, we will demote these players in our leaderboards, which in turn will affect their predictions. These types of players are particularly intriguing during drafts because if They stay sane…well, you know the rest.

The only caveat to stat predictions is that they don’t tell you how A player gets his numbers. It’s great to have projected overall stats for a player, but they don’t necessarily give you an indication of how a player will perform week-over-week, which is more important once the season starts. A player could very well become 25th RB, but if he barely plays the first five games, he won’t help your team through a third of the fantasy regular season. This all needs to be taken into account when looking at predictions and a player’s overall ranking/value.

Conversely, even if a player gets injured, starts the season slowly, or produces in a part-time role, if the totals are there by the end of the year, they can have a significant impact. It’s important to get a sense of who these players might be, as they can be important value picks at all points in your draft. Trying to get a “breakout starter” with every pick is a dumb errand – sometimes you just have to grab the limited but useful production.
