Fantasy Injury Updates: Latest news on Jaylen Waddle, Kadarius Toney, CeeDee Lamb affecting fantasy WR rankings

With the regular season approaching, Fantasy owners are always looking for the latest and most important player injuries they might consider considering – from players high in the rankings to potential sleepers further down their cheat sheets. When it comes to wide receivers, Jaylen Waddle, Kadarius Toney, and CeeDee Lamb have varying degrees of fantasy importance, with Lamb likely drafted as WR1, Waddle as WR2, and Toney as Bench Stash. However, all struggled with injuries in training camp, which could give the owners a break on draft day.

Below we give you the latest news on these three wide receivers and how their injuries could affect their fantasy prospects for the season.

Jaylen Waddle Injury Update

This was reported by NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe on Wednesday that Waddle has missed the past two weeks with an unnamed injury. Wolfe added that head coach Mike McDaniel is cautious with his young receiver. At this point in training camp, it’s not surprising that players are struggling with soft tissue injuries when returning to normal. However, the Dolphins are clearly trying to protect themselves from Waddle’s injury becoming a permanent fixture this season.

Until we know more about the injury, it’s hard to advise avoiding or targeting Waddle, but he’s likely only being held back as a precaution. Last season, the former Alabama standout had 104 receptions (140 goals) for 1,015 yards and six touchdowns. Waddle is unlikely to hit 140 goals this season with the addition of Tyreek Hill, but he should still be busy. Earlier this season, SN Fantasy ranked the 5-10 Speedster 24th among wide receivers in Standard and 23rd in PPR. Also, Waddle’s ADP is #41 on FantasyPros and he is #14 among WRs. If Tua Tagovailoa takes this next step in his development, we should see everyone on the Dolphins offense blossom and trump their ADP.

Update on Kadarius Toney’s injury

The Athletic’s Dan Duggan reported on Wednesday that Toney did not participate in any team practice because his hamstring interfered with individual practice. Toney had his knee checked during the offseason and previously suffered a setback in training camp. The Giants are hoping the young receiver stays healthy after a tough rookie season. The former Florida wide receiver missed seven games last season with quad and abdominal injuries. The Draft Sharks injury predictor tool has classified Toney as “high risk” and predicted he will miss four games this season.

The Giants will be hoping Toney doesn’t miss any games given their wide receiver unit isn’t in the best shape early in the season. Kenny Golladay hasn’t accomplished what he did in Detroit, Sterling Shepard has just been delisted from the PUP, and Wan’Dale Robinson still has a lot to learn. Last season, the versatile Toney had 39 receptions (57 goals) for 420 yards in 10 games.

SN Fantasy ranked Toney 68th among wide receivers in Standard and 65th in PPR. If the hamstring isn’t an issue, it’s not out of the question to think that Toney could be a WR3 or Flex option in the imagination this season. As a rookie, he had a solid two-game streak against the Saints and Cowboys, where he had 16 receptions (22 goals) for 267 yards. The talent is there with Toney, he just has to bring it together.

CeeDee Lamb’s injury update

The third-year wide receiver returned to practice Tuesday after missing some time with a sore toe. Lamb competed in individual practices and looked no worse, according to Around the NFL. He should be ready for the regular season and is tied as Dallas’ No. 1 wide receiver after the team traded Amari Cooper in the offseason. Last season, Lamb led the Cowboys with 79 receptions (120 goals) for 1,102 yards and six touchdowns.

We should see Lamb’s goals and increase in production as the Cowboys work to fill the gap left by Cooper and Cedrick Wilson. The former Oklahoma star was a playmaker on Dallas’ offense, hauling in seven games for 80 or more receiving yards. He also had six games with double-digit fantasy points in standard leagues. As for the PPR leagues, Lamb was a 10-game stallion with 10+ fantasy points. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him as one of the top wide receivers in PPR formats since the Cowboys won’t have Michael Gallup (left knee) and James Washington (left foot) to start the season.
