FIFA 23 may be the last in the series to bear the iconic FIFA brand name, but the installment will be the first to feature Hypermotion 2 technology – and a brand new player movement system.
Dubbed AcceleRATE, this system overtakes everything we thought we knew about player speed and has already resulted in a shift in popular player selection.
It also introduces a brand new category of long players, meaning even those with low stats can eventually catch up to even the fastest in the game.
You might want to reconsider your player choices after that – here’s everything you need to know about long FIFA 23 players.
What is a long player in FIFA 23?
The AcceleRATE movement system divides players into unique archetypes to show how players at similar speeds can accelerate differently across the board.
There are now three types of acceleration:
- Controlled – The default acceleration type where players accelerate evenly.
- Explosive – Smaller and more agile players who get an initial burst of acceleration and then slow down.
- tedious – Bigger and stronger players who start slow but then increase acceleration over distance.
What makes the long players so popular, however, is that given enough distance, even low stat players will be able to get faster than any other player in the game – in theory, players with a 50 pace could catch up with the likes of Ronaldo in time , if they are lengthy.
Note, however, that this new AcceleRATE motion system, and with it long players, is only available on current-gen consoles – that’s PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Stadia.
Who are the best long players in FIFA 23?
It’s worth bearing in mind that some players are inherently tedious, but others can make you tedious themselves. So it’s worth experimenting with your favorite players to see if they’re compatible with this boost type.

How to make players tedious in FIFA 23
AcceleRATE types are automatically assigned to players based on size, agility, and power attributes – with larger, stronger players fitting more into the long category.
However, some players may switch from the controlled acceleration type to a long acceleration based on their chemistry style, with Architect style in particular affecting the stats required to make this change. Players like Toni Kroos and Cristiano Ronaldo can get tedious this way.
