Merson warns Arsenal of missed opportunity

Paul Merson believes Arsenal “would have won the league” if they had beaten Everton at Goodison Park last Saturday.

The Gunners lost 1-0 to Sean Dyche’s men thanks to James Tarkowski’s header in the second half, a rare misstep for the league leaders this season. Arsenal’s Premier League title rivals Manchester City were unable to capitalize on their slip as they lost 1-0 at Tottenham the following day.

Last weekend’s results put Arsenal five points ahead of City in second place with a game in hand. And Merson believes the title would have been as good as over if Mikel Arteta’s side had extended their lead to eight points through a mental impact from that lead.

Klopp in a good mood

As Jurgen Klopp sat down for his Friday morning press conference ahead of Monday night’s Merseyside derby, he knew exactly what was to come.

After the week’s events, despite his side’s struggles, Everton’s win over Arsenal in Sean Dyche’s opening game and a host of other troubles at Anfield, the Liverpool boss knew what was to come.

Inside Qatar’s failed Man Utd bid

The battle to take over Old Trafford is heating up nearly three months after the Glazer family announced Manchester United has been put up for sale.

American businessmen Joel and Avram Glazer confirmed they are reviewing “strategic alternatives” that could end their association with the club, which dates back to 2005. Malcolm Glazer, the couple’s father, bought United in a controversial leveraged buyout and his family members have weathered a troubled era marked by a growing rift between fan and owner.

The good news for Red Devils believers is that there are many interested in taking control of the club from the Glazers. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is attempting to buy United and faces competition from a group of Qatari investors in the running, while US and Saudi Arabian parties are also in the running.

AC Milan let Keita change

AC Milan are set to increase their interest in Naby Keita with a view to replacing the midfielder from Liverpool this summer.

The 27-year-old Guinea international is expected to leave Anfield in an upheaval and is available for a Bosman once his contract expires. Italian giants AC Milan are delighted, although the ace is just a glimpse of the player Liverpool signed from RB Leipzig in 2018 for £51.6million, which was a club-record fee at the time.

Keita is now able to negotiate a preliminary contract with foreign clubs since last month. Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to stand in his way as the ace has been struggling with injuries in England, where he took over Steven Gerrard’s vacant No 8 shirt on his arrival.
