Golden Eagle 2022 betting guide: Tips, betting odds, field, barriers, how to watch

Rosehill will host its last major race day of the Spring Carnival, with the $10 million Golden Eagle run scheduled for Saturday.

The race is held over 1500m and features the country’s best four-year-old horses under specified weight conditions. Since its inception in 2019, it has grown to become the fourth richest grass race in the world, behind Everest, the Melbourne Cup and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The winning connections will take home $5.25 million, with I’m Thunderstruck set to win last year’s event. The other two previous winners of the race are Colette and Kolding.

The feature event on the updated stacked 10 race map in Rosehill is running 4.45clock AEDT.

Tips for the Golden Eagle 2022

It’s a huge field in the $10 million Golden Eagle, but after our recent efforts to find the winner of last weekend’s Cox Plate Quinella and Manikato Stakes, The sports news will do our best to secure it.

Overseas runners Light Infantry ($3.90) sits in the market and enters the race and connects with the successful Maher/Eustace stable. The stallion has an impressive career record to date with two wins and two places in just five starts and will be fresh after an 11 week break.

Lightning Chain ($6) has been kept fresh throughout this pre-season, has only raced four times since early August and has received plenty of support from the market. With six wins from seven starts, the filly’s form is hard to fault and her recent win at the G2 Tristarc Stakes was a head turner. Jamie Kah will be driving from Melbourne and with an inside draw this race is well within her reach.

Also near the top of the market is In Congo ($9), who finishes third in this race and finished a close second in his last start in the G3 Sydney Stakes. With a career win in Group 1 he certainly has the ability to win this race but needs to improve.

I wish I win ($11) was in reasonable form, finishing fifth in the G1 Toorak Handicap and previously winning a listed race as a close favourite. Fan Girl ($18) and Unfoldable ($13) are both quality horses from Chris Waller’s stable and capable of preparing for this race.

One of the X factors in racing is the canter abroad Welcome ($17), who will join Waller and has the legendary Frankie Dettori in the saddle. In seven career starts the stallion has won three races and two of those have come over the 1500 meter journey, with a potential win or placing not beyond the realm of possibility.

Gypsy Goddess ($18) has a fantastic career record to date with six wins and three finishes from nine starts including the G1 Queensland Oaks. The talented filly will be first in this race having previously won two out of two while fresh and with Will Pike getting the ride for David Vandyke she is shaping up as a potential front runner.

Mr. Mozart ($16) has two wins from two starts at that distance while Villana ($17) has shown a lot of ability in eight career starts. No runner should be overlooked in this race, but both must overcome major barriers.

But for us, we tend to impress chain of lightning for Jamie Kah and Peter Moody to win and a place on the overseas runner catfish

LAST TIP: Chain Of Lightning ($6 win with TAB) / Welwal ($5 place with TAB)
