Gracyl Ropmay’s latest song “U Kune U Ksoh” celebrates essence of true love in modern era

Ngam tip, jingieit kumne kan jia…” from the nostalgic range ‘Uff ka jingieid’ which captivated and enchanted everyone who heard it. Regardless of the language spoken, everyone was seen swaying to their rhythm. Time has flown by since the release of this masterpiece, but the voice that brought it to life has only grown exponentially in the music industry. The darling of the music world, Gracyl Ropmay, is here to stay and once again dazzle us with her latest heartwarming creation. ‘U Kune U Ksoh’ which she revealed on March 25.

After the release of her adorable English single ‘Brighter Days’, Ropmay felt an invigorating purpose to continue creating music that would deeply touch her beloved fans. She had eagerly embraced the theme of LOVE for her next masterpiece, basking in the glorious radiance of life’s optimistic aura. “Having gathered all the tender emotions within me, I began to craft the content in harmony with a gifted writer and lyricist, Riqouma Rq Laloo, to compose the song’s captivating lyrics in the Pnar language and exquisitely express my ideas into a beautifully crafted work,” beamed Ropmay in a candid conversation with The Meghalayan.

According to the artist ‘U Kune U Ksoh’ is a sublime tribute to the unfathomable quest for true love—one that is selfless, pure, and mutually respectful, transcending the barriers of language and culture. Ropmay, whose previous work has focused on delivering powerful vocals and energy to spice up the crowd, “but this time the expression of love is also very subtle and gentle, which I have represented in my delivery of tonality and melodies. So this version is a different side of me,” Ropmay said.

The ballad conveys a profound message about the human longing for love and companionship. The music video features talented artist and actor Wanjop “Vince” from TMPros portraying the character of a true lover. Reflecting on his experience, Wanjop recalled a phone call from Gracyl while enjoying his lunch and expressed interest in seeing him in her music video. “At first I was stunned and could hardly believe this was happening. As it was my first time acting in front of a camera I was a little apprehensive but excited for the opportunity. However, the end result exceeded my expectations and I was pleased with how well it turned out,” said Wanjop. “He’s a very promising artist and he did his best by portraying the character well. Vince’s on-screen performance was appreciated by all,” added Ropmay.

The music was produced by B4nshan, recorded at TMPros Studio, mixed and mastered by Erick Franky Kharsyiemiong, directed by Wanri Pyngrope, DOP and edited by Kiki Garod, screenplayed by Balasiewdor Symblai and choreographed by Anniesha Mawrie.

Ropmay also spoke about the song’s cultural and social significance in her hometown of Shillong, Meghalaya. “While Western culture has influenced the ceremonial aspect of celebrations, Shillong still sees love as a gradual process based on mutual respect, trust and understanding between partners, deeply rooted in traditional culture. Relationships and courtship reflect community and family values, and couples seek the blessings of their families. ‘U Kune U Ksoh’ celebrates personal love between true couples, supported by a community that values ​​morality and liberal thinking,” she said.

Songwriting is a deeply personal experience for Gracyl Ropmay, who uses it as a vehicle to express her feelings and relieve stress.
