More than four billion people are expected to tune in to bid a final farewell to Queen Elizabeth II on Monday, when the long-reigning monarch is finally buried.

After her death on September 8, Queen Elizabeth will have a state funeral on Monday, which will be broadcast live around the world from Westminster Abbey. King Charles and his siblings will be in attendance, as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton, as well as Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and other members of the royal family.

According to the Palace, the Queen’s coffin will be transported from Westminster Palace to Westminster Abbey in a procession led by the Royal Navy from 10:44 a.m. UK time (5:44 a.m. ET) on Monday. The coffin is followed by King Charles, members of the royal family and royalty.

The procession arrives at Westminster Abbey at 10:52am BST, where they are then carried in for the state funeral service.

Queen Elizabeth funeral details, schedule, attendees

Queen Elizabeth’s funeral will be the first state funeral in Britain since the death of Winston Churchill in 1965. State funerals are organized and paid for by the state and are reserved for the monarchy, although the Queen has requested a state funeral for Churchill (for comparison, Princess Diana’s). The 1997 funeral was billed as a “royal ceremonial funeral”).

According to the palace, the state funeral service will be attended by “heads of state and foreign government officials, including foreign royal families, governors-general and prime ministers.” President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are expected to be among the foreign dignitaries at the service.

After the service, the Queen’s coffin will make a small procession outside Westminster Abbey, with the King and members of the Royal Family again following in procession.

The coffin is then transferred to the state hearse for the journey to Windsor Castle where the Queen, along with her parents, King George VI. and Queen Elizabeth I, the Queen Mother, who is buried in St George’s Chapel.

The dedication service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle will be a private affair attended only by family members. This part of the Queen’s funeral will not be publicly broadcast.

Queen Elizabeth II was the longest reigning monarch in British history before she passed away this month. She was 96.
