High wind warning in Bay Area: Latest updates

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Trees are being cut and outages are being reported as a Bay Area-wide wind warning went into effect at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Wind speeds of 25 to 35 mph are expected and gusts in the 50 mph range are possible. There are already reports of thousands without power, downed trees and road closures as high winds begin to pound San Francisco and other areas around the bay.

2:38 p.m. – Power has been restored from a previous outage in Palo Alto

According to a tweet from Palo Alto Utilities, 17 customers remain without power in Palo Alto, but most have been restored after a previous outage left about 200 customers in downtown and Crescent Park without power. Crews are on site and continuing repairs with full restoration expected by 4pm

2:28 p.m. – SF firefighters respond to wind-related issues at the Excelsior

Firefighters are at the scene of an incident in the Excelsior neighborhood described by SFFD as “wind related”. People are asked to avoid the area of ​​1100 Russia. Rescue workers are on site and traffic delays are expected.

2:21pm – Downed power lines in Fremont

Fremont PD advises people to avoid Walnut Avenue between Overacker Avenue and Gallaudet Drive due to downed power lines/trees. Alternative routes are recommended.

A downed catenary near 24th & Potrero is affecting SFMTA lines, according to a tweet from the transit service. Delays are expected for lines 9/9R, 33 and 48. There is a strong wind all over SF.

2:15 p.m. – Crissy Field Center and Muir Woods without power

According to a tweet from Crissy Field Center, Building 1199, and the Field Station at Presidio Tunnel Tops are currently out of power Golden Gate National Recreation Area. According to a second tweet, power is also out at the Muir Woods National Park Service.

1:55 pm – Wind-related power outages affecting over 20,000 customers: PG&E

Thousands of customers across the Bay Area are already experiencing power outages due to high winds, according to PG&E.

1:50pm – Novato Shelter in Place requested due to downed power lines

Residents of Shields Lane in Novato are being asked to protect themselves at the scene as several high voltage lines in the area have shut down. Multiple lines have failed at Shields Lane on Wilson Avenue, according to a Nixle alert. The electricity for about 1,573 residents is currently out. The restoration of the power supply has yet to be announced.

1:45 pm – High winds kill trees in SF

A tweet by KRON4 meteorologist John Shrable showed fallen trees being torn from their roots due to the strong winds already blowing in San Francisco.
