Corvus’ overview

Corvus is you incarnate. Everything from his basic attack patterns to his special moves to the way he moves is identical how to trade as Corvus. He’s more than capable of killing you in little more than one combo. Not only that, but he also has two phases, lots of health, and doesn’t subtract punches.

Attacks from Corvus

This section will take a while. Corvus has more attacks than any other boss in Thymesia, and honestly he probably has more attacks than the last few bosses combined. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

attack explanation counter
6 hit combo That is YOUR Combo. Corvus strikes 6 times, dealing monstrous damage per hit. The third and final hit of this combo deals even more damage. You’ve been using this exact combination throughout the game, so you should know the timing. Corvus attacks three times with slight delays between each attack. His fourth and fifth attacks are fast, so you’ll need to hit the deflect button quickly. His last attack is due to a delay. Once you get the timing, that combo will never land.
Dash attack combo Corvus charges towards/around you and uses his sword and dagger to slash upwards in a “V” motion. He will continue this with the end of his 6-hit combination. This means a delayed attack, two quick attacks, and a final delayed attack. The timing is harder to figure out, as the sprint attack itself will likely throw you out of the game until you know this move’s tricky deflection window. Once you get the initial dash attack down, the timing of the remaining combo is identical to his 6 hit combo.
pen stroke Corvus throws a feather, lunges at you, and then unleashes a sweeping attack. You have two counters to this attack – you either throw a feather as soon as you see Corvus preparing to throw a feather, or you deflect the feather, wait for the dash and then deflect the sweep. The second option is a lot harder but also more rewarding as you can punish Corvus right away.
7 hit short claw combo This is Corvus’ longest combo, but also possibly his weakest. The damage per hit isn’t particularly high, but taking the full combo to the face isn’t recommended. Corvus starts this combo by crouching slightly and summoning his claws with his hands at his side. The timing of this attack is very simple. Corvus attacks twice with delays between each attack, then three times in rapid succession, and then with delays before his final two attacks come out quickly. As with his other multi-hit combos, once you get the timing right, you can deflect these perfectly with your eyes closed.
2 hit long claw combo This is Corvus’ strongest Claw-based combo. It comes out fast, can catch dodges with ease, and timing can be a bit tricky to learn since he doesn’t use this attack often. The first punch is easily deflected, since the attack has a noticeable updraft. The trick is the second hit, which has an uncomfortably long delay that can easily catch you.
plague spear Corvus summons a spear and strikes three times with delays between each thrust. The timing of this attack is generous, making it easy to parry. We’ve found this to be Corvus’ most commonly used plague weapon.
Plague Axe Corvus summons an ax and leaps at the player before knocking the ax down. This attack is just a normal jump attack. The timing is very clear, so distract it and punish it accordingly.
Plague Scythe Corvus summons a scythe, decelerates, and then strikes diagonally. This is probably the second most difficult weapon to counter. The timing is pretty bad. Luckily, the damage is pretty minor.
plague bow Corvus summons a bow and fires a powerful arrow. This attack is a pain as he rarely uses it. He’ll only use this attack if you’re far enough away, and even then he might opt for Feather Dash, Long Claw, or Axe instead. In our experience, Corvus is more likely to use one of these other attacks than Bow. However, if he’s using the bow, it’s best to simply dodge to the side after repeated attacks.
Critical Attack – Plague Hammer Corvus summons a hammer, spins around to gather momentum, decelerates, and then smashes the hammer down, dealing massive damage. This attack also deals AOE splash damage if it misses. The timing of this attack is everywhere. The long windup and delayed slam caught us more often than not. However, this is a critical attack and can be countered in two ways. First throw a feather. Second, use Step Jump to get airborne and counter with a Saber or Claw attack. The timing is about the same – just wait for the spin to finish and the moment the hammer starts to move after the delay, counter.
Critical Attack – Greatsword Corvus summons a greatsword, then after a brief delay, strikes for massive damage. This attack comes surprisingly quickly. So fast that you can almost instantly throw a feather or use Step Jump and get a free counter. Nearly. When you see this attack summoned, wait a moment and then counter. If you are early you can sometimes get slapped in the face.

phase two

Phase two is more of the same. Corvus doesn’t get any additional basic attacks and he’s not noticeably more aggressive. But what happens is that Corvus gains the alternate attack associated with each of his plague weapons. This makes deflecting his Plague Weapons much more difficult than functional doubled how many plague weapon attacks he has access to.

Corvus is a tricky fellow to deal with, but it really only takes a few specialized talents to give yourself an edgee. Of course you want to maximize your Saber damage etc. That goes without saying. We’ll only touch on some of the more interesting talents.

Precise distraction is a must in this fight. This battle is all about learning Corvus’ patterns and landing deflections over and over again. This talent increases the damage each distraction deals and makes this fight much easier.

Long dodge is our preferred dodge for most encounters simply because the utility it provides is too good. You can use this dodge to avoid most attacks, giving you some breathing room when things get a little hairy. However, you can’t simply dodge Plague Hammer, so keep that in mind.

long claw is by far the best of the Claw upgrades. It comes out fast, has a long range, and deals awesome damage. The moment Corvus runs out of White Health, you want to start using Long Claw. After that it goes down pretty quickly.

step jump is a must for every build. The added critical attack counter is too good to pass up. Take it. Use it.

plague wounds is the last talent we recommend. Maxing this out increases the time it takes for Corvus to start healing, making this fight just plain short. A great passive talent that shouldn’t be overlooked.

battle strategy

The most important thing to remember when fighting Corvus is that everything he does You’ve seen it before. All. Each basic attack is an attack that you used throughout the game. Each Plague Weapon attack is an attack you’ve encountered before when fighting basic enemies, elite enemies, and bosses. You beat, overcame, or mastered every attack in his arsenal.

The trick is to put everything together. Now it’s your turn to prove you were paying attention and defeat a character that embodies pretty much every opponent in the game. It is a challenge, but it is not insurmountable. All you have to do is shorten the timing. This fight, like with Varg, is about asserting yourself and trusting your ability to deflect and recognize patterns.

It may take a while to learn but we couldn’t find a way to cheese him. It’s really about remembering everything you’ve done up to that point and beating it one last time.

However, we have a tip is to use your quill to stop him from healing. Corvus can run away from time to time and that distance can be difficult to overcome as he has access to some ranged attacks. If he throws a feather at the moment he starts getting this healing glow, the effect will be stopped.
