RPGs and fishing go together like fish and chips, don’t they? Or beer batter and cod. Shrimp and cocktail sauce. Salmon and… broccoli? traces of zero wouldn’t give up fishing – not with Trails in the Sky setting it up so well. As an added bonus, this time around our hero Lloyd does the most painful fishing puns on this side of bad stand-up comedy.

fishing 101

When it comes to how to fish in Trails from Zero, the answer is honestly as simple as what was written above. To make it a little more specific, After casting, three ellipses will appear over Lloyd’s head. Finally, after the third ellipse, “HIT” appears in colored letters. This is when you tap a button to reel in the fish. Do it quickly or it will escape with your bait!

How to start fishing

While Chapter one, day onewhen the participant is sent Armorica Village, proceed with the events of the main story until the fellow appears on the town’s bridge in this screenshot. His name is kopanand he “connects” you to a Beginner Roda fishing Notebook, plus two types of bait: ten worms and ten dumplings.

Kopan will lead you to Armorica Village fishing spot. With water all over it and a glaring bubbling section (as seen below) is a fishing spot. Different fish can be caught in different places, although there is a lot of overlap in the more common species.

The Angel Notebook and you

That Fishing Notebook keeps track of every new species of fish you catch, the number of times they’ve been caught, the record for the largest of its kind, and a nice little blurb based on lore. There is 24 Fish species in Trails from Zero, a fact that can be recognized immediately thanks to the number of slots in the fishing notebook.

By consulting this you can always remember what you caught. Our guide can show you the way, but it’s up to you not to waste time chasing fish you’ve already “tackled”.

Where to get every rod and bait

As for that snakehead, you can only catch this after discarding all 23 previous fish. Then you get the Aqua Wizard Rod … but unfortunately no instructions on where to fish. Or which bait to use. The answer is this Estuary of Ursula Roadbut if that doesn’t ring any bells, this should:

With the introduced Serpenthead, Lloyd becomes a master class fisherman. In addition to all the rewards you’ve gotten along the way, remember that you can trade all your fish for Sepith at one of the merchants on East Street. With everything you’ve caught up to now, you might be surprised at how much you can earn from it.
