How to Change the Boot Screen Logo on Windows With HackBGRT

Change the Windows logo to your liking on boot with HackBGRT.

Windows is a highly customizable operating system, and one of the things you can customize is the Start screen logo. So if you’re tired of staring at the Windows logo as your computer boots up, you can use a little-known tool called HackBGRT to change that. Here’s how.

Before using HackBGRT…

Before downloading HackBGRT, there are a few things you need to check and do.

First, make sure your computer’s BIOS mode is UEFI-based, otherwise the tool will not work. To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. Press victory + R to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type msinfo32 in the text box and press the Enter key to open system information Window.
  3. Activate in the right pane BIOS mode. When it says UEFIyou’re done.

Second, you need to disable Secure Boot to allow HackBGRT to make changes to the boot screen logo. You can also check the status of Secure Boot in the System Information window.

Third, you need to prepare an image to be used as the new logo for the home screen. Here are the requirements that the image must meet.

  • The dimensions (width and height) of the image should be 200 x 200 pixels or 300 x 300 pixels.
  • You must name the image splash.bmp.
  • The image must be saved as a 24-bit bitmap (BMP).

Since HackBGRT eventually makes changes to your computer’s UEFI, you should create a backup in case something goes wrong. Please see our guides on how to create a recovery drive and system repair disc in Windows 10 and how to create a full backup in Windows 11.

Once you have everything set up, using HackBGRT to change your home screen logo is easy. To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. Paint should start as soon as you close the Notepad window. If you don’t see the Paint window on your screen, select it from the taskbar.
  2. Click in Paint File > Openand click in the navigation pane on the left This PC.
  3. You’ll see a partition that you’ve probably never seen before, and it only appears if you navigate to This PC via Paint. On our computer this is SYSTEM (A:).
  4. Double-click this partition to open it, then go to EFI > HackBGRT folder. There you will see an image called splash.bmpand it will be the HackBGRT logo.
  5. Copy and paste your custom logo into the HackBGRT folder from this window.
  6. Considering that the image you created and the image currently in the folder have the same name, Windows will prompt you and you should click Replaced the file in the destination.
  7. Close all windows, including Paint, then open the HackBGRT Command Prompt window. You will see a message that says “HackBGRT is now installed”.
  8. Press any key to exit HackBGRT.

When your computer restarts, you will see that the Windows logo has been replaced with your custom logo during the startup process.
