How to change your Apple Watch strap

Here’s how to change the strap on an Apple Watch.

Apple released a number of new watches during its Far Out event, including the latest Apple Watch Series 8, as well as the more affordable Apple Watch SE 2 and the durable and rugged Apple Watch Ultra.

While Apple Watches offer a wealth of features, they also come with the option of customizable straps so you can better tailor your watch to your personality.

If you want to find out how to replace and swap out your Apple Watch strap, read on as we are going to explain it in just a few simple steps.

What you will need:

  • We used an Apple Watch 6, but you can use any Apple Watch and strap combination you like

The short version

  • Take off your Apple Watch
  • Turn the clock
  • Hold down the little black button while you pull the strap off
  • Do the same on the other side
  • Turn the clock
  • Slide the new belt in on one side
  • Slide in the other strap
  • Put your watch on

    Take off your Apple Watch

    Take off your Apple Watch and place it on a flat surface. Put down your Apple Watch

    Turn the clock

    Turn the watch over so you can see the back. Turn your watch over

    Hold down the little black button while you pull the strap off

    Press and hold one of the small black buttons on the back of the watch. While pushing down, gently pull out the wrist strap on that side. You can align it from either the left or right side. Press the button and slide the strap out

    Do the same on the other side

    Repeat the same process for the other bracelet. You have to make sure you press the black button on the same side as the bracelet you want to remove. Press a black button and slide out the bracelet

    Turn the clock

    Turn the watch back over so the front is facing you. Turn your Apple Watch back up

    Slide the new belt in on one side

    Slide in your new strap, no need to press the button. The strap with the holes should be attached to the bottom of the watch. Slide in a new wrist

    Slide in the other strap

    Slide in the other strap. The strap that snaps into the holes should be placed on the top of the watch. Slide in a new wristband

    Put your watch on

    Once you’ve attached both bands to your Apple Watch, you can put them back on. Put your watch back on

Troubleshooting

Do I have to use wristbands from the Apple Store?

No, you can use bands from the Apple Store, although many third-party vendors also sell bands made for use with the Apple Watch series. In this guide, we used a combination of Apple-branded and third-party bands.
