How to Check the Weather of Another City and Customize the Weather Icon in News and Interests

Since its inception on Windows, the News and Interests app has become a convenient source for the latest events, sports and financial updates, and weather conditions. Plus, it also gives you an overview of your pursued interests, which only makes it better.


Messages and interests in your taskbar can be useful at certain times, e.g. B. if you need to know the weather of another city. Let’s examine how to check the weather in each city.


How to check another city’s weather by news and interest

There can be many reasons why you might want to check the weather in another city. Perhaps you have news about unfavorable climatic conditions in a city where your family or friends are staying and you want to be kept informed.

Or it could be that you are planning to travel from one state to another and want to pack your bags and prepare accordingly. For example, you could take a trip from Florida, the Sunshine State, to Pittsburgh, where days can be extremely cold.

News and Interests give you instant updates on the weather in the city you’re traveling to. All you have to do is:

Hover your mouse over the News and Interests Icon on the taskbar to open the app. The weather map of your location is at the top right.

Click on that Three point menu next to the city name – in the screenshot below the city is set to Florida. Choose Edit location and unity from the menu to open the editing window.

Then turn them off Always recognize my location possibility above. In the search bar below, find the city you want to know the weather for and click on it. In the screenshot below is the search for Pittsburgh. You can also change the unit from here if you want: Fahrenheit or Celsius.

The city is displayed in the search bar. Now click on the Save on computer Button. The new city with its weather will appear on the weather map and you can check the forecast from here.

For a detailed weather forecast click on this See full forecast button on the weather map. That Microsoft startup The city’s weather page opens on msn.com and you can check the city’s 10-day forecast.

After checking the weather of the city you are traveling to, you can easily restore your own city’s weather in News & Interests.

Click on that Three point menu again and select Edit Location and Unit. Now just switch to the in the editing window Always recognize my location option and hit Save on computer– and your city and its weather will be back.

So you only have the weather as a news and interest icon

What’s New & Interests also shows personalized rotating updates on the taskbar, including what’s new and more. Information about these system tray updates will appear in an expanded view in your feed.

However, if you just want to show the weather on the taskbar, there’s a quick fix. Right-click an empty spot on the taskbar and select news and interests in the context menu. Make your selection from the menu that opens to the side Reduce taskbar updates. Now you only see the weather in your taskbar.

To show other taskbar updates again, turn off the option Reduce taskbar updates in the context menu.

Note: If you have disabled an information card, you will not see any rotating taskbar updates related to that information card.

How to show only the weather icon on your Windows taskbar

You may have multiple apps or files pinned to the taskbar for easy access. And if you’re short on taskbar space, you can remove the temperature text from the News & Interests icon and show just the weather icon on the taskbar.

To do this, switch to icon-only mode as follows: Right-click and select any empty spot on the taskbar news and interests. Select from the menu that opens Show icon only.
