How to clean car AC vents: Easy ways

The air conditioner is one of the most stressed components of any passenger car cabin. The dust particles on the air conditioning vents also make things look ugly and unhealthy for the occupants inside. Therefore, it is important to keep the air conditioner vents clean and free of dust. It is recommended to clean the air conditioner vents at least once a month or two or more if you notice dust build up there. However, cleaning the narrow spaces between car air conditioner vents can be a difficult task when trying to do it with a simple cloth. An inexpensive foam brush can make your job easy and quick.

If a strange mushroom smell is released in the interior when you turn on the air conditioner, you should use a disinfecting spray cleaner. To prevent fungal growth in the air conditioner, make sure you dry the air conditioner vents regularly by blowing the fan to maximum when the air conditioner is off. Also, be sure to remove dust that accumulates around the cabin air filter.
Here are some easy ways to make sure your car air vents are clean.
Use a foam brush and a homemade cleaner
Purchase a foam paint brush, which would be a perfect tool for getting deep into the spaces between the air conditioner vent louvers. These brushes are inexpensive and also readily available. Dip the brush in a homemade cleaning solution of warm water and vinegar. Insert the brush between each air vent to remove dust and dirt. Rinse the brush as needed to remove dust. Finally, wipe the ventilation slots with a dry brush.
Replace the car cabin air filter
Most modern cars are equipped with an easily replaceable cabin air filter that is only accessible from the cabin. Consult the user manual to learn how to remove and replace it. If you lower the glove box and remove a few screws, you can access the cabin air filter cover. Remove it and pull the old filter out of its housing and replace it with a new one. Typically, a cabin filter should be replaced with a new one every 15,000 miles. Consider switching more frequently if you live in urban areas with higher levels of pollution.
Clean the air intake openings with a brush
The cabin air intakes are located on the outside of the vehicle around the windshield fascia. Brush off the dirt with a hand brush. Spray a disinfectant into the ventilation openings.
Spray the air conditioning vents in the cab with disinfectant cleaner
Close the car doors and windows. Also, make sure the car is turned off and the key is removed from the ignition. Spray the disinfectant with an enzymatic cleaner on the air conditioning vents in the cabin. After a few minutes after spraying, start the engine and set both the air conditioning and the fan blower to maximum. After about 10 minutes, turn off the air conditioner, open all car doors, and let the fan blow for another 10 minutes. This ensures that the air conditioning vents are dried and the moisture in the interior is blown away.
