How To Earn PSN Money With PlayStation Stars, Sony’s New Loyalty Program, Live Now

Sony has launched PlayStation Stars, its new loyalty program for PlayStation that definitely was Not once an NFT thing that they converted into “regular” digital collectibles. But here we are.

PlayStation Stars seems a little goofy with these collectibles, but it offers an actual way to make money over time in the form of PSN wallets. So what’s the deal?

First, there are four tiers of PlayStation Stars that you will progress through with further purchases and earning trophies. I should also mention that PS Stars is currently being tracked almost exclusively by the PlayStation Mobile app.

  • Tier 1 Milestones – Joined the program and started completing “Campaigns”.
  • Tier 1 Benefits – Digital collectibles by completing campaigns, a collectible for celebration.
  • Tier 2 Milestones – Purchased a full game from PlayStation Store and earned an unusual trophy
  • Tier 2 benefits – Tier 2 celebratory collectible and access to all Tier 1 collectibles.
  • Tier 3 Milestones – Purchased two full games from PlayStation Store and earned 32 uncommon trophies (I assume this is retroactive)
  • Tier 3 Perks – Level 3 Celebration Collectible and a Birthday Collectible
  • Tier 4 Milestones – Purchased four full games from PlayStation Store and earned 128 uncommon trophies
  • Tier 4 Perks – Celebration collectible, all level 1-3 collectibles and the controversial “chat priority routing” by customer service.

Okay, meanwhile, where’s the money? This is done through a separate scoring system that works on all of these levels as you progress through them. There are two ways to earn points in PlayStation Stars:

  1. Buy items from PS Store/Subscribe to PS Plus
  2. Completing campaigns to earn points

Campaigns are not game campaigns. These are specific goals given to you through the PlayStation Stars app, which can include playing with friends, using new console features, and solving puzzles. These change frequently and you can find them in your app.

You can use points to buy more digital collectibles or certain games with points only, or you can redeem them for PSN Wallet credit, which is money (that you have to spend on other PlayStation stuff).

The earning rate for purchases appears to be such that for every $500 spent, you would get 5000 points, which equates to $20 in PSN Store funds. It’s not yet clear how many points these campaigns will give you individually, but probably not nearly as much, and you’d need to farm a lot. But as far as cashback loyalty programs go, that’s not a bad thing.

I mean, you might as well, right? It’s free, and if you’re going to be spending money on PlayStation stuff and earning trophies anyway, you might as well tap into Stars for potential rewards. Again, the whole “digital collectible” thing is pretty weird and pointless and definitely screams “canceled web3 game” but whatever. The rest seems fine.
