How To Earn S-Rank In Valkyrie Elysium

Commonplace in action-oriented games is a ranking system at the end of each level. Players are informed of how well they did, at least as far as the game’s criteria is concerned. Valkyrie Elysium revitalizes Square Enix’s Valkyrie series in a big way, including a shift to action-RPG status that embraces this form of statistical feedback.

Of course, most of us will see this as a justifiable reason to strive for the very best at each tier, namely the gold-plated “S rank”. So let’s take a look at what needs to happen in order for you to complete the chapters of Valkyrie Elysium in style.

All S-rank criteria, explained

Getting to S rank in Valkyrie Elysium boils down to one thing above all else: understanding what the game expects of you. At the end of each chapter and sub-quest, including subsequent runs, a screen will appear combing through various stats about things you did and didn’t do over the course of the mission. Each of them is given a points-based system, and your record determines the rank you achieve.

THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Since you can repeat the stages of Valkyrie Elysium as many times as you want, you can always shoot for the S rank. Don’t feel compelled to during your first few runs. In fact, we advise against rushing!

clear time

The hardest factor in determining one’s rank is how long it takes to complete the stage. At the start of the stage, an invisible timer ticks down from 30,000 every second. In most cases, a total score of 30,000 is required to reach the S rank, and nothing else scores nearly as many points as the time aspect. So the importance of this cannot be underestimated.

That means we think you should avoid obsessing over S rank the first time around any chapter or subquest. It’s not like there’s a lot to see in Valkyrie Elysium per se, but finding treasures like Enhancement Gems and Hollow Blossoms will lower your score, and that shouldn’t mean you don’t care. It should mean that next time you shoot for the S rank.

Death and item deductions

You’ll lose 1,000 points Every time the Valkyrie falls before completing one mission and another 100 Points for each item. You also lose points just for being hit, with damage taken counting towards the final score.

It’s been said elsewhere, and we tend to agree — a 1,000-point drop is steep enough for that You should definitely consider restarting the mission if you fall in combat even once. Of course, this only applies if you’re trying to get something to the S rank.

Everything else

Each of the remaining categories offers up to 2,500 points or so each. While that’s peanuts next to what you earn on a quick clear, 15,000 combined is possible. In that sense, it’s suddenly a lot more important.

Points are earned by good guarding and dodging; from killing enemies; from combo chaining to big numbers; from the pouring of Divine Arts; and from the summoning of Einherjar. Interestingly, using Divine Arts and Einherjar increases the number instead of decreasing it. While this might seem like the obvious result to some, we expected quite the opposite; finally, Divine Arts and Einherjar do the Valkyrie’s quest Easier complete.

What you earn from the S rank

Completing an S rank mission for the first time will earn you a Bronze Trophy on PS4/PS5 and a comparable achievement on PC. That’s it for rewards up to the successful S rank everyone Quest in game worth doing Silver Trophy and its comparable PC performance.
