How To Get Cyberpunk 2077’s Secret, Best Ending, 2022 Edition

As I ponder what guides are worth revisiting during a second Cyberpunk 2077 launch, I’ve just stumbled upon something in my own playthrough that I’ve forgotten for almost two years.

The secret ending of Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077 has a whole load of different endings centered around Arasaka, Johnny, or the Aldecaldos, or a combination of all of them. But while getting to certain endings is pretty obvious, ie. You can’t ask Panam for help if you’ve never played through her sub-storylines. There is an ending that absolutely 100% qualifies as a mystery and is absurdly easy to miss due to the way it was put into the game. And for some it probably is best end, on top of that.

CDPR hid this ending, in which Johnny will voluntarily storm Arasaka alone, behind essentially just a very, very specific conversation with him. This conversation is necessary to achieve 70% synergy with Johnny, which you can follow on the main character’s screen. If you screw up that one conversation, you’ll get stuck at 60%, and that’s how my first playthrough went. There’s no going back to fix it.

It doesn’t matter if you agree with Johnny every single turn throughout the rest of the game, it’s about that one scene in a mission beginning with “Chippin’ In” where Johnny V takes over and makes contact with the street. which will eventually lead you to learn where Johnny’s body was dumped in the oil fields decades earlier.

Once you reach the oil fields, this is where this unique conversation begins to trigger the ending. The ending doesn’t start after that, it can still be a dozen or two hours away in your playthrough, it just requires you to get that part right for it to even be an option later on.

These are the exact conversation options you need to choose in this part:

  • [Inscribe Johnny’s Initials] “Let’s do something about it.”
  • “The guy who saved my life.”
  • “Nah, that messed things up too.”
  • “What do you want from me?”
  • “Okay. But when it comes to second chances, this is your last.”
  • “You were a real ass in the beginning.”
  • “When you said you had let down your friends…”
  • “Smasher biz really hit her.”
  • “Yes, I’ll call Rogue.”

So you gotta be kinda nice, but don’t put lotion on him to a lot, and yeah, I have no idea how anyone figured that out the first time.

You must also complete the rest of the questline, which will eventually lead you to a samurai reunion show that will reunite Johnny with his old bandmates and bring him and V closer. There’s really nothing special you need to do here other than do the quest and play the show, and after that you should be at 70% and ready to meet Hanako in Embers.

There is a final, tricky stage here. Once you make it to the rooftop above the Vic Clinic where you make your final plan, your first task is to choose the ending that lets Johnny go with Rogue. Then, if there’s an option to “put this to rest,” you don’t have to do anything. All you have to do is sit and wait a minute or two and eventually Johnny will propose the suicide mission himself. and This is how you trigger it

Why is it the best ending? Well, it’s the only one where you don’t take extra casualties from people coming with you, and it has the most intense combat some might say, making it the best ending option. After all, it’s not just difficult, but if you eventually die, there are no replays, the game ends and you will hit credits. So make sure you do a quick save before this all starts.

It’s honestly an absurd process to get to this ending that’s incredibly easy to miss, but that’s why this guide is here. I made it on mine third through without messing anything up, so that was nice after missing it for two years.
