How to get rid of fruit flies: ‘The best way!’

Fruit flies are a nuisance. They make your home less hygienic and fly around the kitchen causing trouble. Luckily, help is at hand. The Mommy Life Squad posts helpful hacks on social media and has 168,600 followers.

The parenting hack platform has also amassed almost six million likes on the platform for their videos, which cover potty training, cooking, storage, and travel hacks.

A hack to ban fruit flies from your kitchen has amassed over 186,000 likes and a whopping three million views.

The content creator turned to technology to ease her fly problem. She asked, “Siri, how do I get rid of fruit flies?”

The virtual assistant responded to the influencer with top advice. It said, “Mix about 1 inch of apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap in a tall glass.”

The creator of the game content was keen to try it and made the described concoction. She said, “Alright, that’s it, now let’s put it aside to see if it actually works.”

The influencer explained, “I left that on for a whole night and came back to it the next morning.”

Reviewing the experiment in the morning, she said, “Oh my god, it works, now I never have to ask Siri again.”

A number of TikTok users also testified that the hack works for them. One wrote: “Dish soap and sugar worked like crazy.”

Others suggested how they improved the hack. One said, “I recommend adding maple syrup because it attracts flies faster.”

“Works best with a paper funnel. Also, pour boiling water down all drains,” one advised.

Another said: “You don’t even need the dish soap, apple cider vinegar alone works well. Just put a plastic bag over it and poke little holes in it.”

One suggested using wine as a trap instead: “But a cheap bottle of wine. Pour something very sweet and a glass and leave overnight. Works like a charm.”

Why Does Apple Cider Vinegar and Dish Soap Kill Flies?

This blend is so good at killing flies thanks to the properties of its ingredients. The sweet apple cider vinegar attracts the flies to the mixture.

While flies normally land on and drink sweet liquids, dish soap interferes.

The soap means when the flies land on the mix they fall in and then quickly drown.

Original cleaning guru Kim Woodburn advised Brits to use another cute trap in their advice on how to get rid of fruit flies.

The home hygiene guru was promoted by Channel 4’s How Clean is Your House? Famous. and is now sharing her cleaning insights with Express.co.uk. She recommended honey for flies.

Kim explained: “If you have a fly infestation, take some packing tape sticky side out, apply a thin layer of honey to it and tape it to your window.

“They’ll be drunk on the honey. They’ll all be glued to it within an hour.”
