How to Get Snapchat Dark Mode in Android and iOS

Want to use Snapchat in dark mode on your iPhone or Android but don’t know how? Don’t worry. We’ll walk you through every step of the way.

If you spend a lot of time using Snapchat on your iPhone or Android, it’s best to put it in dark mode. Not only does the app look fabulous in a darker theme, but it also reduces eye strain and battery life on devices with OLED displays.

On iPhone, enabling Dark Mode feature is pretty easy. You just have to switch themes within the app. However, on Android, you’ll have to rely on a workaround to get the app to appear in dark mode.

How to Enable Snapchat Dark Mode on iOS

The Snapchat app for Apple’s iOS has built-in dark mode support. You can always switch to a native dark theme or set the social media app’s appearance to match the system color scheme on your iPhone.

Enable Dark Mode in Snapchat for iPhone

Snapchat for iOS has a built-in dark theme that you can toggle anytime you want to view the app in dark mode. You can enable it from Snapchat’s settings window.

1. Open Snapchat and tap your Bitmoji icon on the top left of the phone screen. Next, tap the settings icon in the upper right corner.

2. In the Settings menu, scroll down and tap App Appearance.

3. Select the option marked with Always dark.

Snapchat instantly switches from light mode to dark mode. If you later want to revert to the default theme, revisit the above screen and tap Always light.

note: If you don’t see that App Appearance option in Snapchat’s settings, you’re probably using an older version of the app. Search for Snapchat in the App Store and tap To update when you see the button.

Match Snapchat to iPhone’s system theme

Alternatively, you can configure Snapchat to match the system theme in iOS. To do this, select the match system Option in app appearance screen.

If you’re unfamiliar with the iPhone’s system-wide dark color scheme, you can quickly enable it from Control Center. To do this, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen and long-press the brightness Slider and tap Dark mode Symbol. Repeat the same if you want to go back to the default light theme.

You can also set up dark mode on a schedule – e.g. B. Automatically activate at night and deactivate during the day – via the iOS system settings (open settings and type screen brightness > options). How to enable dark mode in Snapchat for Android

Unlike iOS, Snapchat’s Android app doesn’t support a darker theme. However, you can rely on a workaround to use the app in dark mode by forcing the system’s darker color scheme for apps in unsupported apps.

The catch? The workaround doesn’t work on Snapchat versions from early 2020, so you’ll need to downgrade to an older app version. However, this causes you to miss out on new features in Snapchat – e.g. cards.

before you start: Android users with Oppo, Realme and OnePlus phones can force dark mode in Snapchat without having to do the following workaround. To do this, open the settings and go to screen brightness > Dark mode the settings. Then switch Dark mode for third-party apps (beta).

Enable the Force Dark feature on Android

You need to start with force dark mode for unsupported apps on your android phone. You can do this from the hidden developer options screen.

1. Open the settings App on your Android device, scroll down and tap Via phone. Next, scroll down again and tap build number repeatedly (5-10 times) until you activate developer mode.

2. Go back to the previous screen and tap system > developer options.

3. Turn on the switch next to Override Force Dark.

Download an older version of Snapchat

Since it’s impossible to downgrade an app on Android through the Play Store, you’ll need to delete the current installation and sideload an older version of the app.

1. Tap and hold the Snapchat icon on your Android device’s home screen or app drawer. Then drag it onto the Uninstall icon or at the top of the screen to delete your current Snapchat installation.

2. Visit an APK repository like APK Mirror and download Snapchat v.10.72.0.0 on your Android.

3. Tap Open to open the Snapchat download. When you sideload an app for the first time, tap settings and activate the Allow from this source Possibility.

3. Tap To install > Open.

4. Snapchat will appear in dark mode. Sign in with your credentials and provide the app permissions to run on your phone.

5. Disable automatic Snapchat updates for the app in Google Play Store. Search for this Snapchat and delete them Enable automatic updating box at the top right of the screen.

note: At the time of writing, Dark Mode is reportedly in beta development on Snapchat for Android. Check the Snapchat changelog on the Google Play Store regularly to see when the feature leaves beta. In this case, delete the sideloaded copy of Snapchat and install the latest version of the app from the Play Store.
