How to gift someone a Kindle e-book

Books make great gifts. It’s like giving someone a bouquet of knowledge that can enrich the reader’s life. No wonder, with one of the largest collections of e-books in the world, Amazon offers easy ways to send an e-book to your loved ones as a gift. The process is quick and easy. Here’s how you do it.

  1. Sign in to your Amazon account on your PC, tablet or smartphone. It should be noted here that Amazon does not allow the purchase of books via Android or iOS apps.
  2. After you have successfully logged into your Amazon account, select the particular e-book that you would like to give away.
  3. Select “Kindle Edition” from the various purchase options that appear.
  4. Click on the “Buy for others” option.
  5. You will be redirected to a new page where you need to fill in the delivery options like the recipient’s email address and other details. If you want to send the ebook to multiple users at once, just enter their email ids in the recipient field.
  6. Make the payment to complete the purchase.

The recipient will receive a notification via email. The good thing is that you don’t need a Kindle device to read e-books. Rather, these can be read through the Kindle app, which is available for almost all devices and platform types. This can be PCs, tablets, smartphones and the like.

Apart from that, there is also the option to send an e-book redemption link as well. Additionally, users can choose which platform they choose to share the redemption links. The former option requires users to enter their name in the From field and also add a message if they wish. For the latter, Amazon will email you a link with detailed instructions on what to do next. In any case, Amazon also allows users to schedule the delivery date within 45 days from the current date. After making your choice, click “Proceed to Payment” and complete the payment to complete the purchase.

Unfortunately, Amazon only allows e-books to be redeemed if the sender and recipient both live in the same country. If the recipient does not redeem an e-book within the specified period, the sender can request a refund or send the unredeemed e-book to someone else.

Advantages of giving away an e-book

One of the biggest advantages of doing this is that delivery is instant and free. This also makes e-books a nice last-minute gift idea. Also, the e-book thus obtained can be read via the Kindle app on any device, be it a PC, a smartphone or a tablet, if not the Kindle e-reader. After all, since Kindle e-books tend to be cheaper compared to hardcover or paperback, you’ll save some money too.
