How to make a flat world in Minecraft Bedrock and Java Editions
When a Minecraft player creates a new world, they have many options to customize it. One such customization option is world type selection.
One world type in the game is known as a “flat” or “super flat” world. Flat worlds are very different from standard worlds. They are incredibly thin from the surface to the bedrock layer.
Additionally, many structures cannot be generated in flat worlds, and surviving is considered significantly more difficult due to the lack of basic resources. However, flat worlds can still be incredibly fun and offer maximum space to build.
The good news for Minecraft players hoping to set up a flat world is that the process is incredibly simple. However, it’s also worth noting that in the Java Edition, players will have additional customization options for their flat world that Bedrock players don’t have access to (by default).
Regardless, flat worlds in Bedrock Edition can be great fun to build even without adjustments, and provide a challenge for survival-oriented players.
Steps to create a Superflat World in Minecraft Java Edition
- Start Minecraft and select “Single Player” from the main menu.
- On the world selection screen, press the “Create New World” button.
- From the world creation screen, select the More World Options button.
- Press the World Type button until Superflat appears. This should normally only require one button press.
- If you want to further customize the super flat world, click the customize button and select the layers that will make up your world. Press “Done”.
- Enter the name for your world and set up the rest of the parameters, including generated structures and the presence of a bonus chest. Then press “Create New World” to generate the new super flat world. Once done, you should be automatically transported to the new world.
Steps to create Flat World in Minecraft Bedrock Edition
- Start Minecraft and select “Play” from the main menu.
- In the world selector, press the “Create New” button.
- Once you reach the Create New World screen, navigate to the menu on the right under Game Settings.
- Scroll down until you find a setting that says “World Type,” press that button and change the type from infinite to flat.
- Fill out the rest of your parameters for the world and choose your desired settings. When everything is ready, press the “Create” button in the leftmost menu under the image of a Minecraft world. Once generated, you will be dropped into the flat world and ready to play.
While flat worlds may not suit all player tastes, they are at least worth a try. This is especially true for players who like the creative mode, as the world type gives them essentially unlimited build space without having to clear any land.
Survival mode players who are used to the default world generation might want to give it a try as well. The reduced resources and limited structures can make survival much more difficult than it would normally be.
