How to play Amazon Prime games on Steam Deck

With a variety of games that come with your Prime subscription each month, how do you play all those games that Amazon gave you on a Steam deck?

With no Steam games included in Monthly Drops and many other services to play through games, it can be a bit of a hassle to transfer games from your Amazon Prime Gaming account to your Steam deck.

However, the vast majority of titles you’ve accumulated over the years will presumably all be playable through Proton and Wine.

Proton and Wine are the middle layers that Valve and the Linux community have developed to run Windows apps natively without the need for virtual machines.

Our main issue is that the Prime Gaming app, which houses all your games outside of the major storefronts, doesn’t work directly on the Steam deck.

To do this, we’ll have to use the tried and true Lutris tool, which happened to receive an update from Amazon to support it.

How to play Prime Gaming games on Steam Deck

First, press the Steam button, select Power and switch to “Desktop Mode”.

If you haven’t updated or even installed Lutris, you’ll need to go into the Discover app first. Download the latest version of Lutris here and you will then need to add it to your sources list.

Click the Hamburger menu button (three lines) at the top, then select Settings. Now select “Sources” in the following menu. You can now toggle Amazon Prime Gaming as well as any other stores you wish to activate.

After that, close the window and Amazon Prime Gaming should now be active on the page and under Sources. You can log in via the little figure that will ask you to log in to Amazon. It hangs for a few seconds after logging in, causing the to load indeed Amazon Store for a brief second while Lutris collects your information.

After a short wait, it will also scan for your games and you can start installing as usual. Choose your game, press next and you should be good to go.

Any game not supported by Wine or Proton still won’t work hereunless there is a community workaround.

How to Play Amazon Prime Games in Steam Deck Gaming Mode

This is a pretty simple fix, similar to the Epic Games Store. In desktop mode, open Steam and in the bottom corner press the plus button and “Add non-Steam game”. This will prompt you to browse for the ‘.exe’ file that Amazon and Lutris installed.

Make sure you change the dropdown menu from .desktop apps to All Files. Then go to where Lutris is by default (for us it’s ~/Deck/Games/amazon/) and select the .exe file.

After that, start the game mode and go to your library. It should now be embedded under non-Steam apps. Before starting, go to the settings menu and select “Compatibility”. This will allow you to turn on Proton to play the game.

Warning about saving the file

If you already have a saved game, you should continue to play in desktop mode. Proton doesn’t honor Wine or other saved files unless you manually copy them in after the first launch.
