How to protect your Binance account with biometrics and phone number via Binance app

If you only use Binance for lighter transactions, you can verify your Binance transactions with your email address and phone number.

The email address you provided when registering with Binance is your default 2FA method. However, adding other authentication methods like SMS verification increases security.

Activate Binance 2FA with phone number

The option to add SMS authentication to your Binance 2FA is in the app’s settings:

  1. Tap the profile icon in the top left of the mobile app.
  2. Go to security.
  3. Next, tap text message.
  4. Turn on the switch to the right of it text message to use SMS 2FA.
  5. Enter your phone number in the contact field.
  6. Beat send code in the SMS and email authentication fields.
  7. Check your messaging app and email inbox. Then enter the respective secret six digits that were sent to you.

After setting up two-step verification via SMS, Binance will send a secret six-digit code to your email address and phone number for every transaction you make through the mobile or web app.

How to protect your Binance account with a 2FA app

Using a dedicated 2FA app is one of the safest ways to protect your Binance account.

You can enable 2FA through the Binance mobile or web app. The web app method is a two-way process involving your mobile phone and your computer.

Install an authenticator app through Binance

The first step is to install a Binance supported 2FA app on your smartphone. Binance supports Google Authenticator and Binance Authenticator. You can install both from the App Store or Play Store.

  1. Open the Binance mobile app and tap your profile icon > in the top left security.
  2. Beat Binance/Google authentication.
  3. Switch authentication app.
  4. Beat Download the Binance Authenticator or Download Google Authenticator; This will take you to the App Store or Play Store (you can also find links below).
  5. Install an app for iOS or Android.

You can also set up a 2FA app for the mobile app on your computer through the Binance website. The only benefit of the web app is that it gives you a backup key in case you lose your phone and need to restore your authenticator app.

First, log in to Binance using a web browser on your PC or Mac.

  1. Click the profile icon in the top right.
  2. Go to Security.
  3. click Enable right of Binance/Google Authenticator.
  4. Choose Binance authenticator or Google authenticator​​​​​​, depending on which app you previously installed on your mobile phone.
  5. click Next.
  6. Now open the authenticator app on your phone and tap Scan QR code. Scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen. Select alternative Enter a setup key to Enter the 16-digit authentication key displayed under the QR code on your computer screen. Then tap Continue.

Setting up a 2FA app via the mobile app does not provide flexibility for the web option as no backup key is provided. However, it’s a quick way to set up your two-factor authentication if you don’t have access to a desktop.

Sign up your Binance account on the mobile app after installing an authenticator app, then follow these instructions:

  1. Go back to the Binance mobile app and tap shortcut.
  2. Skip the tutorial section by tapping Skip tutorial.
  3. Copy the 16-digit secret key under the QR code.
  4. Beat Tie.
  5. Open the previously installed authenticator app (Google or Binance Authenticator). Then follow the onscreen instructions in the authenticator app to get started.
  6. Choose to enter a setup key manually.

Protect your Binance account with 2FA security key hardware

Security key hardware is the most secure form of 2FA for Binance, as your security key is only available locally and is not subject to internet-based security breaches. The easiest way to set up a security key hardware for your Binance account is over the internet on a computer.

Among other things, access keys are stored in external security hardware such as the Yubikey series and the Titan Security Key. They’re USB sticks that you plug into your computer or iOS port (for those that support USB-C inputs).

According to Binance, once you’ve activated a security key over the web, you can’t verify withdrawals through Binance’s mobile or desktop app. Once set up, you can only do this on the website for subsequent transactions.

To use external security key hardware as your Binance 2FA option:

  1. Launch Binance for your account from the web browser on your computer.
  2. Click your profile icon in the top right and go to security.
