How to See Deleted Reddit Posts

When browsing Reddit, it’s annoying to find a deleted post with tons of upvotes. A quick glance at the thread title and your curiosity takes over, leading you to wonder how awesome it would be if you could just go back in time and see what the deleted thread was about.

Well, that’s not possible – just the time travel part. We’ll show you five different ways to view old, deleted Reddit posts and comments so you can satisfy your inquisitive mind.

1. Undedit

Unddit is probably the most convenient tool to view deleted Reddit threads. You can view deleted posts and comments, and color-code them to distinguish the deleted content based on who removed it. Unddit also displays the username of the user who originally posted the comment.

Using Unddit is very simple. Just go to unddit.com and drag the red undedit Bookmark bar button. Now open the deleted Reddit thread you want to view and when the page is fully loaded, click on the Unddit bookmark in the bar.

Alternatively, you can just “reddit” in the thread url with “cancel‘ and you’ll be taken to the same Unddit webpage.

Unddit pulls the data from the Pushshift archive and presents it in an old Reddit-like interface. Pushshift is a social media data collection and tracking platform that has been archiving Reddit data since 2015.

As mentioned above, Unddit uses a red and blue color scheme to distinguish between user-deleted and moderator-removed comments. It highlights comments deleted by users in blue, while comments with a red background were removed by a subreddit moderator.

If you want to view all deleted comments of a post, you need to wait some time while Unddit loads the data. However, there is a quick way to directly view a specific comment in a thread. You can provide the direct link to the thread containing the deleted comment and Unddit will just fetch and load that thread from the archive.

2. Revedit

When you visit reveddit.com, you’ll find just a single text box where you can type the username, subreddit name, or link to the thread. If you provide a subreddit name, Reveddit will list all deleted threads and comments posted under that subreddit. You can then browse the results to find anything that catches your eye, or just search for what you want using other search options.

Similar to Unddit, you can enter URLs for both posts and specific threads. Also, you can replace “reddit” in the thread URL with “reveddit” to view deleted content directly in that specific thread.

The only drawback? Reveddit will not display comments that have been deleted by users. You can only view comments that have been deleted by the moderator of the subreddit.

3. Resavr

Resavr may not be the best site to search for deleted Reddit content as you cannot view removed posts. It is a website dedicated solely to viewing deleted Reddit comments. Another issue is that you can’t search for a specific thread using the link to see the deleted comment you’re looking for.

The resavr.com user interface is quite simple. It lists recently deleted Reddit comments and is a great site for those who just want to spend some time reading deleted comments. However, it links to the originally deleted Reddit thread, so you can view the entire post to understand the context behind the thread.

4. The Wayback Machine

The Wayback Machine, also known as the Internet Archive, archives the entire Internet, including Reddit. If the above tools don’t show the deleted content, you can visit the Wayback Machine in hopes that it may have archived the comment you’re trying to read.

First, visit web.archive.org and enter the URL of the Reddit post you want to view. Make sure you clean up the URL first by removing any trailing, unnecessary HTTP parameters.

The website features recorded snapshots spread across a calendar. If there is a relevant snapshot, you can click on the day the snapshot was recorded and view the webpage.

Note that if a user/moderator deleted a comment or thread before Wayback Machine was able to archive it, the comments will show up as deleted.

5. Google cache

Similar to the Wayback Machine, Google also indexes web pages and stores a cached version of those pages for display to users. You can also view deleted Reddit comments and posts using Google’s cache.

First, search for the Reddit post by the title of the thread. Then, when you find the post on the search engine results page, click the three dots icon next to the result. If you find an option labeled at the bottom of the modal window Cachedmeans that Google has a cached version of this page and you can view it by clicking the option.

If you’re lucky, the deleted thread or comment you’re trying to view still exists and you can read it before Google crawls and saves a new version of the page. Obviously, this only works with recently deleted comments, as Google crawls webpages at an overwhelming speed and refreshes the cached pages fairly frequently.

Reddit is home to some great conversations!

Viewing deleted comments and posts may seem inappropriate at first, considering someone removed them for a reason. There are countless websites out there that will help you dive into the data and bring remote Reddit threads back to life. This is especially useful when you want to recover a deleted Reddit comment that you accidentally removed.

Given Reddit’s rudimentary search feature, it’s very likely that you’ve spent hours looking for a thread you’ve read before, only to never find it again. A user may have deleted the post or you are not browsing the site properly. Therefore, learning how to surf the web is important, especially on a platform like Reddit, where thousands of new threads are published every hour.
