How to set custom ringtones on your Google Pixel

Stock Android makes it pretty easy to jump in and make your phone your own. One option is to set up a custom ringtone or song for your Google Pixel. This guide will walk you through the simple but quick process.

Set a custom ringtone on your Pixel

Custom ringtones are simply media files that you drag into your Pixel’s bank of selected sounds. Once your file is in the right place on your phone, you can set it to play when someone calls or texts.

To do this, you must first download an MP3 file to play. You can find these almost anywhere on the internet. Alternatively, you can download a ringtone app that allows you to save MP3 files. Once you have the file, setting the ringtone is easy.

To set a custom ringtone on your Pixel:

  1. In your settings, go to “Sound & Vibration” and then tap “Ringtone”.
  2. Tap on “My Sounds”.
  3. Click the plus icon below.
  4. Tap on the three lines at the top and select “Downloads”.

    If your file is somewhere else, navigate there from this window.

  5. Tap your file and then select it on the next page.
  6. Click on “Save”.

The Pixel Sounds app

Android 12 and 13 made it easier to set a custom ringtone right in Settings with the Pixel Sounds app. Before, you had to move the file to the right place and hope your device recognized it. Of course, you could use other apps that would do the process for you, although these usually cost a premium.

Pixel’s Sounds app is an easy way to select and add ringtones and notification tones to your phone without worrying about moving files around the phone storage. Just go into the app and pull from your downloads. From there, this ringtone is among the other sound options for your phone.

You can only access the app by going into settings and finding the ringtone or Default notification sound Section.

The above process is great for setting your default ringtone for each caller. You can also set custom ringtones for different callers on your Pixel if you like. There are a plethora of reasons for this, with the most likely professional being able to identify callers before they look at your phone.

The process is simple, although you must follow the steps above before setting a custom ringtone for a contact. once you do that Go to the Contacts app on your device. Find the contact you want to set a ringtone for and Click on the three-dot menu in their contact card. Tap there Set ringtone and Choose the one you want to use.

Whether you want to iterate through each contact and set a specific song as your ringtone, the above process is useful to learn. From there you can set up any number of custom ringtones or songs for your Pixel.
