How to Set Up a Stocks Watchlist on Google Finance

For a quick and easy way to keep track of stocks that interest you, you can add them to a watchlist in Google Finance. In addition to a real-time view of the stock’s market data, you can see financial news about the stocks you follow.

Google Finance provides you with a default watchlist that you can use, or you can create a custom list if you’d like. We show you how to do both and how to sort and edit your watchlist.

Use the default watchlist on Google Finance

Visit the Google Finance website and sign in with your Google account. You then have two options for adding the stocks you want to your default watchlist.

Add a stock from the stock or main page

  1. Use the to search for a stock, ETF, or other security Seek at the top of the main Google Finance page.
  1. Choose the right option from the search results and choose consequences top right in the details.
  2. confirm that Observation list is highlighted in the drop-down menu.

Alternatively, you can also choose plus sign next to a stock you see in the You might be interested Section.

Add a stock from the watchlist

Another way to add securities to the default list is to open the watchlist and then add them from there.

  1. Either choose Observation list in which your lists section of the main page or use the menu icon at the top left.
  1. Choose add investments if you don’t have one in your list yet or investment at the top of the watchlist page after you’ve added one.
  1. Enter the name or symbol and select the security from the search results.

Create a custom watchlist on Google Finance

You may want to create a custom stocks watchlist to organize the securities you follow. For example, you might want one list specifically for technology investments and another for cryptocurrencies.

Create a watchlist on the main page

Either choose New list in which your lists section of the Google Finance main page or select it plus sign in the Watchlists section of the left sidebar menu.

Give your new list a name and select it Save on computer.

Create a watch list on the stocks page

You can also create a custom watchlist while following a stock. On the security detail page, select consequences and choose New Watch List. Give the new list a name and select it Save on computer.

If you open the Your Lists page by selecting your default watch list, you can also create a custom list at this point. Choose New list Give it a name above and select it Save on computer.

You can add stocks to your custom watchlist using the same methods as adding them to your default watchlist above.

View your watchlists

You can then view your watch list at any time your lists on the main screen or in the left sidebar menu. In addition to market data, you’ll see financial news and earnings calendars based on the stocks in your list. You can also create a new financial portfolio at the top right.

Sort a watch list

If you want to sort the default or a custom watchlist, open the list and select it sort by link above. Then sort by name, ticker symbol, stock price, daily change, or daily percentage change. You can also select in ascending or descending order.

Edit a watch list

You can remove securities from the default watchlist or a custom list you create. Open the Watchlist, hover over the stock in the list and select it X that appears on the right.

You can also rename, delete, or copy a custom watchlist that you set up. Open the watchlist, select it three points at the top right and select an option.
