To make a pillowcase, start by cutting out a piece of fabric that's 45 inches by 36 inches. Wash, dry, and iron your fabric.
Doing so will enclose the opening at the top.
How to sew a pillowcase with flap. No need to trim it off. Work your fingers into the inside corners to make sure flap is all the way right side out. Notice that i lined up the hem side seam with the side seam of the pillowcase.

Try this one to make a flap closure pillow, an envelope style pillow that requires no hand sewing. Flange pillows are pillows that have a “rim” or “flange” around the edges. Sew both side seams taking a 3/8 (9mm) seam and backstitching at each end again.

Turn pillowcase right side in and press the seam open from the wrong side. They can be made in a snap and they will use up a lot of your stash. Fold the raw edges of the envelope flap along (1/4) and press well.

On the right side of the pillowcase piece on which is the flap place the right side of the second piece of the pillowcase up to the marked line, which represents the edge of the pillowcase and the beginning of the flap. Iron the seam toward the panel. The raw edge will now be hidden.
Using the seam as a guide, sew the cuff in place. Now, with the fold still at the top, fold the entire thing in half by folding the left side over onto the right side, with “wrong” sides together. Remember to pivot at each corner.
Place the unfinished end down on the table, wrong side of the fabric up, and fold down the upper edge a 1/2 inch, another 1/2 inch….and then pin in place. Then you take the longer rectangle and measure down 9”. Again, if you are making a pillowcase for a larger pillow then you will need to adjust how much you are cutting off (you will cut off less). Now, sew that flap down, about 1/4 inch away from the bottom fold.
Align the seam and press again. Plus, the selvedge edges won’t fray, so that’s an added bonus. Then, turn over, with the right side of the fabric up, and measure 8 inches down from the top edge.
(don’t worry, i didn’t lose my marbles and forget to fold “right” sides together….we’re creating the french seam here.) Then iron down the folded part and pin it, to keep it in. With the “wrong” side facing up, fold 1 short edge by 2/8″ (0.6cm), and fold again by 3/8″ (1cm).

For a standard pillowcase, the measurements are: Since this part will be the flap on the inside of the pillowcase it isn’t even noticeable. And if you wanted a king size pillowcase, you would cut two pieces that are 39.5 inches long and 21 inches wide.
Cut it so that it measures 34 inches long and 36 inches high. Sew right along the lower folded edge and iron flat. You have now completed the perfect colorful and fun pillowcase.
Technically, you could’ve trimmed this off before you began, but as i said before, this is a basic and very fast pillowcase sewing method. Turn the flap over to the back side (revealing the pillowcase opening), then turn the pillowcase right side out. Push all 4 corners out, press the seams and you are finished.
