How to share games on your Meta Quest 2

(Pocket-lint) – Did you know it’s possible to share games and apps on your Quest 2?

Meta made it so you can share games across two Meta Quest 2 headsets, so family members can play the same games without having to buy the games twice.

This isn’t the case for everything, as game and app developers need to opt-in for the sharing features in order for users to access them. However, in most cases, you can follow this guide to start sharing games easily.

How to enable sharing on Quest 2

To share games on a Quest 2 you must first be the primary account on the headset. Then a sub-account must be created there to grant access to the games. This is fine if you have a new headset that you want to share games with, e.g. B. if you bought one as a gift for a family member. However, if the headset already has an account and games, a factory reset is required, which can cause problems.

With that in mind, the first step to share games is to create an additional account on the Quest 2 that you want to share with.

How to create a sub-account on Meta Quest 2

The first step here is to access the Quest 2 you want to share with and log into your meta account. You then need to add a sub-account to grant access. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Turn on your headset and put it on
  2. Press the menu button on the right control to access the menu
  3. Click the clock on the bottom left to access quick settings
  4. Click Settings
  5. Locate Account Settings and click on it
  6. Click here to add an account
  7. Have the other person sign in to their account and add them to the headset

Enable app sharing in Quest 2 settings

When the sub-account has been added to the Quest 2 in question, you can enable sharing by following these steps:

  1. Turn on your headset and put it on
  2. Press the menu button on the right control to access the menu
  3. Click the clock on the bottom left to access quick settings
  4. Click Settings
  5. Click Accounts
  6. Then look for the button to turn on app sharing and press it

Once that’s done, the secondary account will have access to all your apps and games. However, saves and game progress will be linked to the sub-account, so your own game progress will not be affected.

It’s worth noting that the sub-account can buy games and apps, but these aren’t shared with the main admin account or any other additional accounts on the headset.

Also, using this sharing technique has other implications that have been officially noted by Meta:

“You can still sign in to multiple devices at the same time. However, you cannot use the same account to run the same app on multiple devices at the same time. Different accounts can simultaneously access a shared app on multiple headsets and stay connected. Note that you can currently only enable app sharing on a single device.”

What about multiplayer games?

This game sharing for Quest 2 is not really meant for multiplayer games. You usually can’t use it to run the same game on two different headsets and join a multiplayer game together.

It’s really meant to allow access to single player experiences separately without buying the game twice.
