How to Share Your Location on Android

Google Maps for Android can share your live location with other Google Maps users in real-time. With the Google Maps app, you can turn on permanent location sharing, or temporarily share your location for a specific period of time, e.g. B. for an hour or a day.

If you want to keep your family and friends informed of your location, you can easily use the Google Maps app on your Android device. This app allows you to share your real-time location with both Google account holders and non-Google account holders. We’ll show you how.

If you share your location, you can choose how long you want to do this. You can also stop sharing your location manually by tapping a quick option in the app.

Google Maps shares other information with your location

When you start sharing your location, Google Maps will share your name, photo, and real-time location.

Details shared can include where you’ve been lately, whether you’re driving or walking, and even phone info like your battery level.

You should be aware of these details before sharing your location with others.

Share your live location with Google Maps on Android

To share your current location, launch the Google Maps app on your Android phone. Then tap your profile picture at the top right of the app.

In the menu that opens, select “Location Sharing”.

Choose "share location" in the menu.

You will see the location sharing page. Here, tap on “Share location”.

Tip: If you’ve shared your location with someone before, tap New Share instead.

You will now see a “Share your real-time location” section. In this section, choose how long you want to share your location.

If you only want to share for a short time, select the “For 1 hour” option.

If you want to continue sharing your location until you manually turn it off, select the “Until you turn off” option.

Specify the location sharing duration.

To share your location with a Google contact, tap that contact on your screen.

Tip: If you don’t see the contact you want, swipe left on the contact list and tap More.

Tap a contact to share location with them.

After selecting a contact, tap Share to start sharing your location. The recipient needs to launch Google Maps on their phone to see your location.

Choose "Split."

To stop sharing your location, tap your contact’s name and choose Stop.

Beat "Stop."

If you want to share your location with someone who is not in your contacts, select one of the many apps that you want to use for location sharing.

You can get a shareable link for your location to give to others through any medium. For example, you can share the link via SMS or chat app.

To get this link, just tap on the “Copy to” option.

Choose "Copy to."

Your loved ones can now see exactly where you are on the map. You’ll see your live location even if you stop using the Google Maps app.
