How to Squid Surge and Squid Roll
Splatoon 3 features a slew of new content including Squid Surge and Squid Roll, two dynamic movement abilities that are easy to overlook.
turn 3 is the latest entry in Nintendo’s popular shooter, where players use their inkling characters to smear the ground in colorful ink. Known modes sweep out turn 3‘s predecessor, including a single-player campaign with platform and boss battles, a horde-style cooperative mode called Salmon Run, and a multiplayer suite with familiar game modes like Turf War, Rainmaker, and more.
But for everything known turn 3 represents another step forward for the franchise, complete with quality of life improvements and new features to discover. There are the obvious additions, like new weapon types like the Splatana, as well as features like the Tabletturf card battle mode and a lobby where players can easily practice or meet up with friends between online matches.
The squid children from turn 3 also include some fresh new moves like Squid Roll and Squid Surge, two traversal-style abilities that are easy to overlook but offer huge tactical advantages when executed correctly. Here’s everything players need to know about both moves.
How to roll squid
The first move that players should become familiar with is Squid Roll. Performed through ink while swimming, this movement allows the player to quickly change direction without losing speed or momentum. To achieve this, players should move quickly while swimming in ink, then immediately switch directions while jumping with the B button.
When executed correctly, the player’s squid will pop out of the ink and flash very briefly, which is a very small window of invincibility. While this move is traditionally performed on the ground, it can technically be performed anywhere that ink sticks are used, allowing players to use it as a way to quickly leap off walls. How to make Squid Surge
The other important movement technique is called Squid Surge. While the role is primarily performed on the floor, Surge is a wall skill. After inking a wall, players should start swimming up vertically by holding the ZR trigger. Once players are near the top, they should stop and hold the B button until the character in the ink flashes. When you release the button, the character will shoot up and even over nearby ledges if necessary. The move is a great escape move for getting onto a platform that isn’t fully inked to the top, or even allowing the player to drop enemy players underneath while battling the numerous overhauled ones turn 3 Cards.
Just like Squid Roll, Surge doesn’t consume ink, so players can use it as often as they like.
