Initial investment: $67,248 to $145,640.

In addition, each Kumon owner candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and either US citizenship or a green card. Kumon has an innovative way to help franchisee candidates get up and running quickly by covering up to $36,400 in expenses. This is how it works:

  • It refunds you 50% of your rent for the first 12 months, up to $1,000 per month.
  • Kumon will buy your main outdoor sign for you – including the cost of any necessary signage permits and the cost of manufacturing and installing the sign, even including electrical hookups and sales tax. Value ranges from $4,800 to $7,000.
  • The company will buy and supply the Kumon furniture and facilities you need to open your center – valued at $9,300.
  • Kumon will share the $4,000 cost of local marketing with you for the first three months. To give you time to build your student base, you pay nothing on this program until your 5th and 6th months. At this point, you will be billed $1,000 each month.
  • Kumon reimburses you for the phone system that connects you to the call center so leads can be called and appointments scheduled for you, saving you up to $600 and countless hours.
  • Kumon does not charge for the Instructor Development Program (IDP). In addition, when you take out IDP, the cost of the training counts toward your franchise fee. Should you decide not to continue IDP, you can return the training kit for a full refund.
  • After purchasing the first few materials, you don’t have to worry about worksheets anymore – you just order more when you’re running low on just the shipping cost.
