How to turn off vibration on iPhone in 2022

Haptics have been part of smartphones for as long as they have existed. If you own an iPhone, you may feel your device vibrate on several occasions, e.g. B. when you receive a call, receive a notification, unlock your phone, and perform other system actions. If you’ve recently updated your iPhone, you may have noticed that your device now vibrates even when you type with the onscreen keyboard.

In this post, we explain why this happens and how you can turn off the keyboard and other vibrations on your iPhone.

Why is my keyboard vibrating since the iOS 16 update?

For years, Apple’s native keyboard didn’t provide haptic feedback when users were typing on their iPhones. The only type of feedback users could enable was keyboard clicks, which would be heard when keys on the on-screen keyboard were tapped. With iOS 16, Apple added a keyboard feedback option to iPhones that can be configured to make your device vibrate when you type on the native keyboard.

This is why, after iOS 16 update, you may have noticed that your keyboard vibrates every time you touch a key while typing. If you have an iPhone 8 or newer, keyboard feedback might be on by default, but you can always turn it off if you’d rather type without feedback.

How to disable keyboard vibration on iPhone

You can turn off keyboard vibration on your iPhone running iOS 16 at any time. Since keyboard haptics is only available on iPhones running iOS 16, you can only use the steps as long as you are using iOS 16, not on older iOS versions.

To turn off keyboard vibration, open the settings App on iPhone.

Select in settings sounds & haptics.

On the next screen, tap keyboard feedback.

If you see the haptic option enabled, turn it off feel toggle on this screen.

Haptic feedback is now disabled on your iPhone. Now whenever you interact with your keyboard, you won’t feel any vibration when you type or swipe.

How to turn off other vibrations on an iPhone

If the keyboard isn’t the only aspect of your iPhone you want to remove vibrations from, you can enable vibrations for different elements of your iPhone by following the steps below.

#1. Disable vibration for individual audio alerts

With your iPhone, you can configure custom ringtones for different types of notifications and also change the way your device vibrates for each of those notifications. iOS Settings lets you customize how your phone vibrates when you receive calls, texts, voicemails, emails, reminders, and more. If you don’t want your iPhone to vibrate on some of these notifications, you can do that too and customize each of your notifications.

To turn off vibration for individual notifications, open the settings App on your iPhone.

Select in settings sounds & haptics.

On this screen, scroll down to the Sounds and Haptics section. In this section you can configure each of these options – ringtone, text tone, New Voicemail, new email, mail sent, calendar notificationsand reminder alarms. In this case, we’ll choose Ringtone, but the instructions remain the same for any notification type selected here.

On the next screen, tap vibration above.

On the vibration screen, you can select a different vibration type if you want to use the current setting. If you want to completely turn off the vibrations for this alert, tap on none at the bottom.

Your iPhone will no longer vibrate when you receive the selected notification. You can repeat the above step to turn off vibrations for other alert types under Sounds and Haptic Patterns.

#2. Disable vibration in silent/ringer mode

By default, your iPhone is configured to vibrate when you receive a call or notification in both ringing and sleeping modes. If you don’t want your iPhone to vibrate every time you get a call or an alert, you can disable haptics for both or one of these modes. To do this, open the settings App on your iPhone.

Select in settings sounds & haptics.

On the next screen, scroll down to find the Ring/Silent Mode Switch section. In this section you can turn off the Play Haptics in Ring mode Toggle to turn off vibration when your iPhone is set to ring mode. If you want to turn off vibrations when your device is in silent mode, you can do that by turning off the Play Haptics in silent mode Switch within this section.

This allows you to keep the vibrations for any of these modes, or disable haptics for both as you see fit.

#3. Turn off the vibration for the control panel

In addition to calls and notifications, your iPhone also sends haptic signals when you perform certain system functions, such as B. unlocking your device, swiping to view the recent apps screen, long press on app icons or your home screen and other areas. If you don’t want to feel such haptics when interacting with your iPhone, you can turn them off so that your iPhone does not vibrate at all during the above actions.

To turn off the vibration for the Control Panel on iOS, open the settings App on your iPhone.

Select in settings sounds & haptics.

On the next screen, scroll down and turn off system feel Switch.

Your iPhone will no longer vibrate when interacting with iOS and its control panels.

#4. Turn off all vibrations, including emergency alerts

If you have already disabled all the above options, you may still feel vibrations on your iPhone for some alerts. Your iPhone will always send you emergency alerts in the event of extreme weather forecasts or natural disasters in and around your area. These alerts are accompanied by vibrations to ensure you get the alert at the right time.

If you don’t like the haptics at all on your iPhone, there isn’t a dedicated switch to disable vibrations just for emergency notifications. However, you can turn off all vibration feedback for your entire device, including calls, notifications, and emergency notifications in iOS Settings. To turn off all vibrations including emergency alerts, open the settings App on your iPhone.

Select in settings Accessibility.

On the next screen, tap Touch under “Physical and motor”.

Scroll down on the touchscreen and turn off vibration Switch.

You will no longer receive vibration feedback for notifications on your iPhone.

That’s all you need to know about turning off the keyboard and other vibrations on your iPhone.
