How to Unofficially Play Halo Infinite’s Split-Screen Co-Op

Split-screen co-op is a staple of Halo as a franchise. But for Halo Infinite, that feature is sorely absent, at least officially.

Fortunately, despite the lack of official support in Halo Infinite, you can still enable split-screen co-op. And while it requires a few simple menu errors, the feature runs incredibly well.

If you’re wondering why 343 Industries has stopped supporting split-screen co-op, or how to unofficially enable split-screen, we can help.

Why is split-screen co-op not an official Halo Infinite feature?

Due to Halo Infinite’s tumultuous launch, many core features of what players have come to expect from a Halo game were missing from the start.

As stated by Game Rant, features like Forge, co-op campaign, weapon variants, multiplayer game modes, and even multiplayer maps have been left out.

Because of this, 343 Industries was forced to spend enormous amounts of development time supporting and adding features to Halo Infinite that players had already anticipated.

This problem was further compounded by Halo Infinite’s game design as a games-as-a-service title due to the constant need for new content.

Because of these issues, the head of creative at 343 Industries, Joe Staten, announced in a lengthy developer update that Halo Infinite is making best use of the resources needed to produce split-screen co-op elsewhere.

The cancellation of Halo Infinite’s split-screen co-op further adds to the idea that couch co-op games are slowly dying, and could be taken as another sign that this is the case.

Oddly enough, 343 Industries ultimately canceled co-op split-screen play for Halo Infinite, however the feature is very much available and unofficially playable.

Things you might need to know about Halo Infinite split-screen co-op

Before learning how to enable split-screen co-op, there are a few limitations you need to be aware of as the feature is not supported by 343 Industries:

  • Since Halo Infinite split-screen co-op is not officially supported, bugs or glitches may occur.
  • Enabling split-screen co-op could overwrite your save file if you go through an entire level.
  • You need an online friend waiting in a custom game lobby in Halo Infinite.
  • Split screen requires you to have at least two profiles on your console or PC before attempting to enable it.

While issues like save file corruption may seem bad, the file will continue from your last single-player save point. In other words, if your file is corrupted, only the progress you made while playing with split screen enabled will be erased.

How to enable split-screen co-op in Halo Infinite

Follow these steps to troubleshoot the potential issues you may encounter when trying to enable split screen collaboration in Halo Infinite:

  • Choose load game and select the saved file you want to play with split-screen co-op.
  • Choose To playa countdown should appear and you can open your friends menu.
  • When the countdown is up and Map is loading appears, choose a friend from your list and choose Connect.

  • Once you’ve joined your friend’s fireteam, just open it Fireteam Options and select Leave.
  • You are then on your own custom game server. open that server Options and select Local offline.
  • Finally, plug in and select a controller or profile that you want to play with in split screen To play.

If successful, upon loading the game will take you straight into the save file for the campaign you originally selected, but with split-screen co-op enabled.
