The other day I showed how the first thing I do when I get a new iPhone with a daily driver is to put a screen protector on it and put it in a case. It’s a great way to make a new iPhone look brand new.

But the case I chose – the Quad Lock MAG housing — generated a few comments and messages asking if it’s good for in-car use.

It seems many of you want to keep your iPhone in a holder when you are in your car and looking for a decent holder system.

Quad Lock offers just that.

I’ve been using a Quad Lock case, suction cup mount and wireless charger for over a year and I’m very happy with it. I was skeptical at first because systems that rely on numerous accessories are often unreliable. There’s usually one or two decent accessories, and the rest is junk.

Likewise: My 3 must-have car accessories: This phone holder, the charger and the cable

I was also concerned that while the case would be good, the auto-mounting system would be awful (because I hate to tell you, so many of the auto-mounting systems out there are awful).

But I liked the quad lock system.

It certainly had its downsides, notably that inserting the phone into the mount could be a little awkward and you had to leave plenty of room around the mount for the phone as it had to be inserted at an angle and then rotated to click into place and place.

The new Quad Lock MAG system solves this problem.

The phone simply snaps into place thanks to the force of the magnets.

It’s really easy.

So easy you can almost throw the phone in the holder.

And don’t worry that the magnets won’t be strong enough to hold your phone in place. I have used this in trucks on rough roads with no problems at all.

It’s a good system.

In order for the system to work, I had to upgrade the wireless charger. No big deal, the old one didn’t support the faster charging protocols and had a pretty annoying LED built in.

The new wireless charging head solves these problems.

Since the older mounts are not compatible with the new heads, Quad Lock includes a new gimbal head with the wireless charging head.

That’s a nice touch. Quad Lock deserves credit for supporting older hardware and not just telling users to buy more accessories.

Nice job Quadlock.

Everything about the system exudes quality. Small touches like threaded inserts (rather than putting threads in plastic, which is much weaker) and the inclusion of blue threadlocker on screws to prevent them from loosening due to vibration are nice touches.

The new MAG cases also appear to be less prone to overheating phones, being thinner to allow for more efficient charging.

The suction cup mount is one of the best I’ve used. Apart from one time I taped it to a window that had way too much condensation on it, it has never let me down. And this mount gets a lot of movement from vehicle to vehicle, which wears out most suction mounts very quickly.

This is another highly recommended part of the Quad Lock system.

My favorite charger is still this LinkOn 130W USB-C to USB-C Charger. Not only is this powerful enough to charge phones and tablets, but it’s also perfect for drones and even laptops.
