Tuesday night at the Coleman Coliseum, Mo Williams comes home.
Williams played point guard for Alabama basketball from 2001-03 before playing 13 seasons in the NBA. Now Williams is the Jackson State head coach who will travel to Alabama on Tuesday.
While Alabama suffered a 100-90 loss to Gonzaga at the CM Newton Classic, the Crimson Tide got off to a solid 9-2 start — including not one but two wins against No. 1 opponents in North Carolina and Houston. It was an impressive start for Alabama, which couldn’t be more unlike Jackson State.
In their first 11 games, the Tigers have a record of 1-10. The only win was a 69-68 win over SMU, but that’s the extent of the team’s success. Jackson State’s worst loss of the season was also its most recent, a 102-52 loss to Texas Tech.
The game may not make much of Alabama’s NCAA tournament resumé, but it will still give the Crimson Tide an opportunity to get their rhythm back after the Christmas break to get into SEC play.

Last meeting: On November 17, 2009, Alabama defeated Jackson State 86-69. Of the Crimson Tide starters, Mikhail Torrance and JaMychal Green lead by 13 points each, while Torrance racked up a solid eight assists. However, it was the Alabama bank that stole the show. Tony Mitchell recorded 23 points as a team leader in addition to five rebounds, while Charvez Davis had 16 of his own in the win.
Last time, Alabama: The Crimson Tide lost for the second year in a row at the CM Newton Classic, this time to Gonzaga with a final score of 100-90. Alabama shot out of the gate to a 20-11 lead, but Drew Timme and the Bulldogs had other plans. Brandon Miller led the Crimson Tide with a whopping 36 points, followed by Jaden Bradley with his 18 points. Alabama was able to break into Gonzaga’s lead at several points in the second half, but the Crimson Tide’s defense couldn’t stop the Bulldogs’ offense.
Last time, Jackson State: It was an ugly game for the Tigers against Texas Tech on Saturday as Jackson State was beaten by the Red Raiders 102-52. The game was the Tigers’ 10th loss in their first 11 games. Keionte Cornelius led the Tigers with 12 points while Jamarcus Jones had 10, but neither came close in the Jackson State loss.
