How to Watch Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire

Except for Bram Stokerfew writers are more associated with literary vampires than the late ones Anne Rice. And yet she was reportedly hesitant about Hollywood adapting her most famous work. Interview with a vampire, believing that many of the nuances in a film would be lost. She was still writing the screenplay for what would eventually become Neil Jordan‘s Interview with a vampire (1994), but she was famous and frankly disappointed in the cast of Tom cruise like Lestat et al Brad Pitt as Louis. Rice later changed her mind, saying that she was attracted to the film, particularly impressed by Cruise’s Lestat and the way the film didn’t shy away from the homoerotic undertones of the relationship between the two male vampires. Now we are getting a new adaptation of the AMC series titled Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire.

Part sequel, part reinterpretation of Interview with a vampire (and the rest of Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series), the show makes many changes to the original story and dives right into the queer heart of the novel. What is Interview with a Vampire about?

In the novel, Louis tells his undead life story to an eager young journalist, Daniel Molloy. The series is set over 40 years later. After its initial success, Molloy (Eric Bogosian) has bottomed out, so when Louis (Jacob Anderson) calls him again, this time to Dubai, he eagerly accepts. The 21st century has allowed Louis to speak more openly with Molloy about certain details he left out of their original conversation — namely his love affair with his enemy and creator Lestat (Sam Reid). The series follows Louis as a wealthy mixed-race brothel owner in 1910 New Orleans who is both attracted and threatened by the erratic personality and eccentric disregard for morals of the mysterious Lestat (Sam Reid). The first season depicts Louis’ transformation, transition, and adjustment to vampire life, as well as his fatal attraction and love-hate/romance with Lestat.

When will Interview with the Vampire premiere on AMC?

The first episode of the series, which lasts 99 minutes, premieres on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT on AMC – right after the return of the Walking Dead season 11 New episodes of the series will continue to air weekly in the same slot until the season finale on November 13.

Will the interview with the vampire be streamed online?

Subscribers to AMC’s sister streaming service AMC+ will be able to watch the first two episodes after the first episode airs on October 2, and each additional episode on-demand after its TV premiere. How many episodes will Interview with the Vampire be (and is there a season 2)?

Interview with the vampire will have seven episodes in the first season. As mentioned above, the series runs weekly from October 2nd to November 13th. From the moment their characters collide onscreen, the chemistry between Anderson and Reid is electrifying in every exchange; Lestat senses exactly what Louis craves inside, while Louis initially struggles to resist the other man’s magnetic pull at every turn. Their connection triggers a game of cat-and-mouse with a discernible inevitability, and while it’s obvious where that will end — and what Louis will ultimately agree to regarding Lestat’s “dark gift” — there’s no ambiguity when it will it is about depicting their relationship as erotic and romantic, albeit fraught with its own complexities and complications.
