Finland secured their place in the World Juniors 2022 gold medal match thanks to a 23-save shutout by goaltender Juha Jutkola against Sweden. Seeing Jatkola in the starting XI came as a surprise to some as he has only started in one of the team’s last five games, but the Finns drove with him and he made it big in the 1-0 win.

Kasper Puutio scored the only goal of the game. It came on the power play after a dubious call for too many men on the ice. Sweden failed to score in a 5v3 powerplay they had for 1:34 towards the end of the second period.

It is the first time since 2019 that Finland is playing for gold. That year, the team defeated the United States in the championship game. This year, it must defeat a Canadian team that it lost 6-3 in the preliminary round.
