To celebrate the much-anticipated release of Avatar: The Way Of Water, its 2009 predecessor has been brought back to theaters.
James Cameron’s film broke records upon its initial release and fans have eagerly awaited the sequel for 13 years after many delays and release date changes.
Shortly after the release of the first film, it was announced that at least four more films set in the stunning world of Pandora would be in the pipeline.
Fans excited for the sequel and wanting to relive the on-screen experience of the original film have even more incentive to grab tickets now, with an exclusive new post-credits look at the upcoming sequel.
Fans who have already attended the release have expressed their delight at the surprising look, with one user writing, “Just saw the re-release of avatar and I’m glad I stayed because I saw some scenes from Avatar: The Way of Water and it was sooo good. I can’t wait for December!”

What is Avatar: The Way of Water about?
Disney describes Avatar 2: “Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Water Path begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri and their children), the difficulties that follow them, the… Efforts they make to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive and the tragedies they endure.”
When is Avatar returning to Disney+?
The first film was removed from Disney+ prior to its theatrical re-release, but is expected to return to the streaming platform sometime after Avatar: The Way of Water’s release.
Will there be an Avatar 3 and an Avatar 4?
Production on the sequel officially began in 2017, but the mix of live-action and motion-capture elements meant the film took a while to make.
In September 2020, James Cameron announced that Avatar 2 was complete and Avatar 3 was “about 95% complete”. That means fans might not have to wait that long to get back to Pandora.
The director also revealed that part of Avatar 4 has already been filmed. Cameron told Variety: “Anything that needed to be done with a certain actor that we did all the scenes for 2 and 3 together – and a bit of it 4.”
