How to Watch Queen Elizabeth II’s Funeral, National and Provincial Commemorative Services in Canada

On 8 September 2022, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, aged 96. She was the longest living and longest reigning British monarch in the history of the world. Her death has sparked intense repercussions around the world, including Canada.

The Canadian government will mark her death with 10 days of mourning and a national memorial ceremony.

As she was Canada’s beloved Queen, many citizens will want to see the awaited funeral, which will take place on Monday September 19, 2022. Funeral in London, UK:

Queen Elizabeth II is currently in state Westminster Hall. Lying-in-state ends Monday, September 19 at 6:30 a.m. local time.

The funeral service will take place in Westminster Abbey.

The Queen’s coffin is being taken away Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey at 10:44 am on a Royal Navy State Gun Carriage towed by 142 seamen. The procession will be full of pageantry, with King Charles and other members of the royal family walking behind, and the route will be lined with royal military guards.

The service begins at 11am in Westminster Abbey local time.

Around 2,000 guests attended the state funeral, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Governor General Mary Simon.

After the 12:00 noon service, the Queen’s coffin is taken to Wellington Arch in a walking procession, followed by King Charles and other members of the royal family.

Arriving at Wellington Arch, the coffin is transferred to a state hearse at around 1pm for a procession to Windsor Castle and finally to St George’s Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at St George’s Chapel at 4:00 p.m., attended by 800 guests. After the service there will be a private ceremony where the Queen’s coffin will be lowered into the royal vault at 7.30pm

  • New Brunswick: There will be an invitation-only provincial memorial service on Monday 19 September at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, 150 Church St, Fredericton. It will be broadcast live in English and French. Before the ceremony, there is a procession of honor from Government House to the Cathedral, followed by a ceremonial gun salute.
  • PEI: A memorial service for the Queen will be held at 2:00pm on Monday 19 September 2022 at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Charlottetown and will be streamed live on the Prince Edward Island Government Facebook page.
  • Manitoba: A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Cathedral, Winnipeg, by invitation only of the Province. The church bells will ring 96 times before the service begins. A 21-gun salute will take place on the southern grounds of the Legislative Building to coincide with the federal memorial service in Ottawa, followed by a 96-gun royal salute to honor each year of Her Majesty’s life.
  • Saskatchewan: A memorial service is to be held at 7pm on September 19 at St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, Regina, which is open to the public, doors open at 5:30pm and seating will be on a first come, first served basis .
  • alberta: An outdoor ceremony will be held at the Alberta Legislative Grounds on Monday, September 19 from 10-11 a.m., which will be streamed live on Alberta.ca.
  • British Columbia: A multi-religious memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria, BC. The service will follow a procession from the BC State Houses of Parliament beginning at 10:15 am. It will be streamed live online.
