How to watch Team USA vs. Mexico in World Baseball Classic was originally published on NBC Sports Bayarea

Team USA’s journey to a replay at the 2023 World Baseball Classics began with a win.

After trailing 1-0 in the first innings against Great Britain, the defending champions rolled to a 6-2 win on Saturday night. Kyle Schwarber hit a three-run home run and Nolan Arenado drove two runs in a three-hit game.

However, the Americans don’t have much time to enjoy the 1-0 start as they face Mexico again at Chase Field on Sunday.

Mexico lost their opening game Saturday 5-4 to Colombia in a 10-inning thriller. So Randy Arozarena, Alex Verdugo and Co. will be anxious not to fall into a 0:2 hole.

Here’s what you need to know before Team USA takes on Mexico in Phoenix.

What are the Pool C World Baseball Classic standings?

At the start of Sunday’s game, Team USA and Colombia lead Pool C with 1-0 records. Great Britain and Mexico are each 0-1 with Canada still playing one game.

After a four-game round-robin tournament, the top two teams from Pool C advance to the Quarterfinals.

Who are the starting pitchers for Team USA and Mexico?

Team USA-Mexico offers an intriguing pitching matchup. San Diego Padres right-hander Nick Martinez will be on the mound for the Stars and Stripes. After a four-year stint in Japan, the 32-year-old Martinez returned to the bigs last season, posting a 3.47 ERA in 47 appearances, including 10 starts.

Left-hander Patrick Sandoval of the Los Angeles Angels takes the ball for Mexico. 26-year-old Sandoval had an impressive 2.91 ERA in 27 starts in 2022.

What is the expected line-up for Team USA vs Mexico?

It’s hard to imagine manager Mark DeRosa benching Mike Trout, Mookie Betts, Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado, or Trea Turner.

But with a southpaw on the mound for Mexico, we could see Tim Anderson and Pete Alonso stepping into the Team USA starting lineup for Jeff McNeil and either Kyle Schwarber or Kyle Tucker.

It also wouldn’t be surprising to see Will Smith take over behind the plate after JT Realmuto caught the opener.
